I was asked about how to route the cable on the McKee-style snow blowers. The answer is embedded in a longer video of mine and not well advertized on YouTube.

So, for the sake of the internet here is my video on the subject.

What I don't mention in the video, is the set the chute dead center in its travel pointing the discharge straight back. Next, estimate the length or measure the full stroke of the hydraulic ram and set the ram halfway through the stroke. At this point, on the drive pully from the loop holes on the pulley from where the cable runs through, one wrap of cable each way all around the pulley. On the discharge chute itself, attach the cable dirrectly to the attaching point on the chute without any wraps. Leave the cable between the pulley and the chute on the loose side (think really loose chain on a chain saw loose).

That all said, TBN isn't allowing the embedded video start, but I begin addressing the McKee at 6:50

This method of hydraulic chute rotation was sold by Kubota at the same time they sold Kubota branded McKee blowers.

The trick is to not fasten the cable to the end of the pivoting rod as the ends of the rod do not move in an arc.

This 48" blower belonging to my friend has the open bevel gears running with only snow to lubricate them and still excellent after many decades of use at approx 750 pto rpm.

Thanks for sharing. On my McKee the bevel gear rotates on a fixed shaft and after 50+ years was slowly sleazing up, thus my fix was a zerk fitting.
