McCulloch Chain Saw Carb Adjust

I have a 16" McCulloch chain saw that runs well if you can keep the carb adjusted. I adjust the high and low screws for max RPM while it is warmed up and running but then it won't start when it is hot (too rich I think). Let it cool for 20 or 30 minutes and then it will start again. Any suggestions? When turning the jets, is clockwise richer or leaner?

Dennis, Clockwise is leaner, When at idle or near idle if you screw the low side screw in the idle should pick-up but it will have less response or it will feel flat,so you have to back out the screw to acheive a lower more responsive idle,Now for the high side rpm ,while holding throttle wide open adjust the high side screw in until the engine slows or starts dying down then back out until it picks up to the max rpm that you feel is the sweet spot for the saw,..its easy once you,ve done it /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif I know my homelite carbs are marked with L and H for identification for adjustment ,I would hope other manufactures did the same thing?? but I'm not sure /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Hello Dennis
I Have a few small "mac" chain saws.From my experence I think you may have a coil problem.When the engine is hot the coil opens and you have no spark until it cools.Next time it shuts down check the spark.
