Brush hogs are made for cutting heavy brush including small trees in pastures and other large areas. They are not made to trim the grass in your front yard. If you are using razor sharp blades in a pasture to cut heavy brush and small trees, you are just pruning them and they will grow back faster and stronger. A dull blade pulverizes the heavy brush killing or seriously maiming it and it will also cut the tall grass, just not leaving it will a nice finish cut.

A flail mower will leave a very nice looking cut in a front yard but don't try to cut heavy brush and small trees with it.

Lawn mowers are made to manicure your front lawn and they need a sharp blade to do a nice looking job. Even a sharp blade on a brush hog will never leave a yard as nice looking as a good mower.

I have a Kubota L4400 with a 6' brush hog that is many years old and I have never sharpened the blades and it does a great job on my pastures that I cut 2 or 3 times a year. I have a Kubota ZD326 to use on my yards and it does an excellent job but I would never try to cut heavy brush in my pasture with it. I change those blades every 2 years.
