I've had this machine for 2 years now and absolutely love it. While doing an oil change this weekend I noticed that the battery pan is very corroded, and I would like to deal with this before the onset of winter. Problem is it looks like the whole nose and headlight assembly of the tractor have to be removed to get at the battery. That doesn't make sense. Am I missing something here? Any insight to this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

On my max 26 there are two wing nuts at the top of the grill you loosen. Next you gently pull forward on the grille and it pops out. You may have to pop the fenders off first.

It takes less than 1 minute to take the entire nose off, and no tools are needed. Way easier than it might at first appear.

Not to hijack this but is it the same for a 3016

If you don't want to go through this again, do what I did. Thoroughly clean and dry the battery compartment, removing all loose paint. After repainting, or as I did coating with undercoat spray, replace the battery with an OPTIMA Red Top sealed battery.

yes, a couple of thumb screws on the top, tilt the grill fwd, unplug the headlights and lift the grill off.

Wow. That was so easy I'm embarrassed to have even asked the question. Thank you everyone for your replies, this forum is great! Also, - AchingBack - thanks for the tip on the Optima battery, I think that's the way to go.
