Bought one of the last Max 28's 2 years ago and had no problems with it until now. The other day while lifting a piece of pipe with the bucket it just shut down. I was at a slight down slope and figured my weight slid forward on the seat and disengaged the seat safety switch. I readjusted my butt, depressed the HST clutch, turned the key and it started. When I let the key return to the run position it stopped running. It would start but not stay running. If I held the key in the start position it would stay running, but shut down when it returned to run position. If I kept holding the key in start, kept it running and let the clutch out it would again stop running. After making sure the PTO levers were fully back to engage the switches and bouncing on the seat to make sure that switch was engaged, it still would not stay running. After several more tries it finally stayed running. Now it will run for a while then stop and exhibit the same problems. Seems like it would first stop while at a front down angle, but then after I can get it restarted it seems to stop running at any time. I first thought it was the seat switch, but if that was bad it wouldn't turn over or start at all. I'm stumped! Anybody have any suggestions?

There has been an issue with these machines, and I seem to remember it might be a solenoid, but I don't remember for what or where. I bet someone else will know. Same problem affected my neighbor's Max 28.

You need to trace the ignition feed with a volt meter if you have one. They have a bypass for starting.

If it was a bad wire to the run circuit seems to me it would not run ever. It will run for a while, then shuts down. Maybe a bare spot shorting out occasionally? I was thinking maybe corroded run contact in the ignition switch.

Fuel solenoid is bad. Mahindra has had issues with them.

Happened to me the 1st summer I had my Max 28. It was some kind of solenoid on the motor that is on the right hand side if your sitting on the tractor up by the steering column. I believe it is just above the oil dip stick. Happened right in the middle of a project of course. Dealer came out and changed it under warranty. Haven't had an issue since. Sorry I can't remember exactly what it is called but I hope this helps. Pretty sure your dealer would know exactly what the problem is if you gave him a call.

+1 with jabonee response. My dealer came to my home and replaced it no charge! Happened at about 80 hours for me he showed me in the connector where it was arcing and the contacts were black. After replacing the fuel solenoid he packed the connectors with dielectric grease so no moisture could cause a repeat. I keep my 28 garage kept and never left out in the rain and mine still faulted.

Call your dealer ASAP and see if its still under the 2 year warranty. You don't want to pay for that out of pocket. That solenoid is over $200.00

Called the dealer and I was still under warranty. He seemed familiar with the problem and told me he has the part in stock and could get me in tomorrow to fix it. Trouble is the dealer is about 70 miles away and I have a brush hog on the tractor. He said he needs the bad part for the warranty so I told him I'd take it off and drive up and make the exchange. **** thing was a pain to remove as the wiring for the plug was so short that there wasn't enough slack to allow it to unplug. Had to snip the wires to unplug it. The plug terminals look corroded and it's wet inside. Hope they don't give me grief about snipping the wires.

It can unplug just hard to get to. Shouldn't be a problem though. When you put it back on your gona need to rotate the plug since it will get caught and not turn with the solenoid. Had a customer just keep turning one and pulled the wires out of the plug. They key switch and relay can also cause this problem not always the solinoid
