O.K. I've been looking at alot of tractors, have remained silent and read alot. I have it down to a massey 1528/1531 , mahindra 2615 and looked at the Kubota lines. When I talked to the Kubota dealer he said Massey's don't have good resale values along with mahindra and Kioti. I told him I wasn't afraid of that because we have two other tractors that are 40 and 50 yrs old!! But I coudn't help but wonder after he said that. From my view the Massey's quality was as good if not better than the Kubota's. Both built in Japan. By the way, prices were all well within a thousand bucks of each other. MF1528 hst fel for 15,000. Mahindra 2615 hst fel filled tires brush guard for 14,700. But why the low resale values. Just in case I can't afford the payments I always like to have a way out!!

Your friendly Kubota DEALER is feeding you a line of........

Masseys hold a good resale value. Just try to buy a used one CHEAP. A GOOD dealer doesn't knock the competition. He'll tell you why his product is better, but degrading the other guy is a bad way to do business, ESPECIALLY when he's wrong about his claims.

I don't know if this is the type of answer that you want or not, but here goes. A lot depends on the area dealers. If there are area dealers that have been in business for some time and have a good reputation, then the brand will have a higher resale. That is the way it is with several different types of equipment, not just tractors. There are three area MF dealer in the area where I live. They are all reputable and have been in business for many years. Resale on MF's in this area is very high. You don't even have to have more that one dealer as long as they are the way they should be with their customers.

Jerry G hit it on the head. For years around here, all the larger 60-100 hp ag tractors were MF, therefore they had better resale. They even put the local NH folks out of business. Along comes Kubota with their CUTs, they got a good name, and now are making inroads into the ag market. MF is now doing the same in CUTs around here, but are still 2nd to Kubota in CUTs. I believe it's a regional thing dependent upon local, reliable dealers, much like autos. We only have 1 major auto dealership in town. Guess what you see the most of around here, that brand. I bought the MF because of fit, feel, and it's ability to do what i need. Kubota is bulletproof in CUTs in my opinion and would have done what I needed. They just weren't as comfortable to operate. Again, that's my opinion. As far as dealers bashing the opposition, if he isn't professional enough to sell his products on their own merit, maybe he needs to be selling something else. One out of town Kubota dealer not only showed me his product, he gave me directions to a JD dealer about 15 miles away. If I'd of bought Kubota, he would've had my business. And the local dealer where I bought MF, he carries Kubota and was happy to sell me either based on MY preference. JMHO.

Thanks for the input guys, I thought that was the case. He is a new dealer in the last year or so. The Massey dealer has definately been around. From what I have heard they do good business. You see alot of older Masseys kicking around the grape vineyards of western new york but you don't see many for sale. In my mind that means people are quite happy with them. As far as the fit and feel... I have felt most comfortable on the 2815. I liked the 2315 but felt a bit cramped with the hydrostatic model. Another question for you guys now that I have your attention. Can I run a 5 ft brush hog and 5 ft rototiller with the 2815? My Golden Jubilee can run these but has a bit too fast of a 1st gear for the rototiller.

I don't see why the 1528 wouldn't run a 5' bushhog. Specs show 22/24.5 pto hp for hydrostat/gear is what I believe I saw. Probably run a light/medium duty fine except maybe in wet, heavy stuff. My 1533 runs a 5' bushhog no problem, and I've been in some mean stuff.

Carter and Carter Machinery has posted specs on tillers. I personally have no experience with them.

I run a 5' hog with no troubles on my 1531. It does shake the chassis a bit when it's starting up, but never so much that I would consider it a problem. I would encourage you to look at the 1531 if you're considering a 1528 with HST. It was only a $600 price difference for me and more HP isn't a bad thing. ;) BTW, you're getting a better price than I did, but location makes a difference.

I run a 5' brush hog behind my 1428 on hilly terrain. It does a great job. I agree that the $600 bump would be worth it. For me and my property, the 1428 has been perfect.
