I'm looking at a couple units, a 135 and 150 and wonder what the "word" is regarding MultiPower. My reading tells me that the thing either runs well or it's best to forget the tractor if MP is bad. Is this a consistent finding or is it a case by case situation. Personally, it is something that I innately would like to see missing on the tractors.

Very early form of a 2 speed powershift. Me , i would buy regardless, and fix it, but that is me.

Yeah, you can run it without the multi power but its nicer with it. If its nice buy it, nice feature on a tractor that size.

MP operates via an hydraulic clutch that's controlled by the MP lever on the dashboard. The "Low" range is the home position, i.e. if the MP hydraulics fail, then the MP operates in that range only. You can still use the tractor in that case.

The multi power is a good feature, only came across one that was even weak. When they work right they snap you a little when you throw them from low to high and be careful on the hills, make sure your in high when going down hill unless you want to go for a ride, in low range its just like hitting the clutch, sorry that Im late to the post.

Run one on a 285 for 22 years never had any problem with the multi power.

Another nice feature is that it has a roll back lock, meaning if you are driving up a hill in Hi and just push in the clutch, you won't roll backwards. This works great when backing a wagon up a hill, no brakes are needed if you stop half way.

The control lever plate on the dash is to worn to read. What position is related to high or low?? It is in the up position now. I'm thinking about purchasing this tractor and would like info on it.How do you know it (multi power) is operational? What test could be performed? What additional gotcha's ae

Thanks

Lever down = MP Low. Lever up = MP High.

MP is an auxiliary hydraulically operated clutch that changes the normal 6F/2R tranny to a 12F/4R.

You can start the tractor in either MP Low or MP High.

The MP can be shifted on the go from one range to another without using the clutch. Always move the MP lever all the way up or down when shifting.

MP can be operated continuously in either range.

MP High provides engine braking when descending a hill. This is one test to verify that the MP is working in High range.

MP High has a hill-holding feature when moving uphill. Depress the 2-stage clutch through the first stage only (clutch pedal halfway down). The hill hold will keep the tractor from rolling backwards (without the need to press the brake pedal). Hill hold works in both forward and reverse gears but only with the engine running. This is the other way to test the MP.

If there's difficulty shifting the standard gears on hills, put the MP lever in Low range.

You cannot start a tractor with MP by towing or pushing.

Good luck in your quest.

Excellent explanation of the system. Just the kind of info I needed. Thank you very much for your input and quick reply
