Massey Ferguson MF50
Hello everyone,

I just purchased my first tractor and was wondering if someone was willing to help me.

I bought a Massey Ferguson MF50 high crop model with an extra set of tires. The tires currently on the tractor are 12.5x38 and are pretty roached yet hold air, but the rims have calcium damage and are in need of repair. The extra set of tires and tubes are 13.5x38 and in pretty good shape. I was looking for an extra set of rims so I can repair what I got an not be down and in care the ones I got are ruined. I can't find any used rims for my tractor and new 38 inch 6 rail rims with power adjust I think the cheapest I've seen is maybe $475 a rim! I've seen some cheaper used farmall rims for model H and M's that appear to be able to be attached with 6 points and are 38 inch. But is there adapters I need or some sort of conversion for this. These are deepwell style will that work even? Do I need hubs too? Help I'm suffering from buyers remorse and sticker shock and couldn't find any info on this!

Thank you

Are you handy with a welder? Do you need the adjustability of Power Shift rims? Here is what I would do. I would buy the cheapest rims that I could find. Here in southern Alberta they would be free because it's a common size that no one uses any more. I would take some 3/8th's or 1/2" inch thick flat plate and cut circles to fit in the 38 inch rims. These should be about 3-5 inches deep and can be pieced together. Take all of your Power Shift wedges off and bolt the welded rims to the center of you present wheel. If your reasonably careful with your measurements the wheels should run fairly true. You might have to put some spacers in between the wheel and the center so that the bolts will tighten up but a Massey 50 shouldn't stress the McGyvered setup too much. I wouldn't do heavy plowing in low gear with this setup but you should be able to do utility type chores without any problem. It might be cheaper just to find a deep well setup at a tractor wrecker.

If it's just rusted around the valve stem hole, find a comparable rim, and do a section repair. Cut out the bad, and weld in a good section. I wouldn't think it would have to be a spin out type donor rim. Just so the rim itself matched. If you don't have the tools to do it, I'm sure a weld shop could do it for you. It's a pretty common practice anymore. Although it may be a good idea to get an estimate first, before committing.

I do know a fellow that did do that type of work when he was laid off a couple years ago, but he's back to work now. Not sure if he has time to do something like that. Beside's, he lives down around Washington Courthouse. :(

Anyway you could ask him for a quote and if he has time. I would really appreciate it as this is driving me crazy! The left one isn't really bad at all I can post some pics if needed. I already have new(used) tires and tubes ready to put on. I also live pretty close to Washington courthouse...THANK YOU!!!:cool2:
