Was just digging around on You Tube for comparison videos and stumbled upon this one. Looks like it was just posted the other day. I've been looking at the new Massey tractors (more specifically the 1700E series). Looks like Massey did their homework against John Deere, I think I may have to go test drive one of these.... thought I would share for those who were interested. Thanks!

No they didn't do an acceptable comparison. If they had they would have used a new JD. They didn't specify the year of the JD so you don't know if the options he mentioned were available for that year. Erganomics are in the eye of the beholder. What works for you may not work for me. I can go on but you get the point. Compare apples to apples I.e. new to new.

Ergonomics aside, Massey's E-series is super stripped down, but, according to this video, the Massey E-series comes with higher lift capabilities because of its heavier axles and it comes with a skid-steer style QD on its loader.

OK, for the moment I'll give you the greater lift and axles. Brand of tractor aside my only real point is regarding this video was that they used a brand new tractor against an older and most likely worn out or damaged used tractor. IMO that is an unreasonable comparison.

Are you suggesting that JDs wear out in 120 hours? The fellow in the video did say that they took the JD in on trade, that the JD has 120 hours on it, but that the JD was still a current model.

Did you all notice how cheap the hood was on the Deere? They need to get away from these plastic hoods or really beef them up and make them out of better material. Even MF pointed out the metal hood and fenders. It's probably gonna be along time before I buy another tractor but If I do I am thinking seriously about switching back to MF.

At least we still have one MF on the farm.

He states in the vid that it is a JD 3038e current production, vs a 1739e. Both 38 HP. Both hydro (though the 3 range hydro on the MF is a definite bonus over the JD's 2 range).

The only other thing I'd like pointed out, would be new pricing, for the sake of comparison.

What I saw as a broken hood. Abuse? maybe. Staged? Maybe. When people tell me that plastic is bad and metal is good, Yes and No. My JD has a plastic hood and I've abused the crap out of it and not even a scratch. But that's not every tractor. I'm not going to say JD is better than MF or other wise. As the presentation went on to me it was just another salesman using the tricks of the trade to make a sale. And yes I "was" a salesman for several years and I do recognize the way he's slanting the conversation. What I would say is go by the manufactures specifications, use each of the machines and make your own judgment as to which is better. Personally I don't take any salesman word as fact. If you want to compare machine find independent sources who are not tied to any manufacturer.
