Ebro, Massey ferguson 135,
Hello all, new to the site and to tractors.
I Live in Spain and have bought a MF 135 built under licence by Ebro In Spain, I believe it to be late 1960's, 3 cylinder perkins diesel with an 8 forward and 2 reverse gearbox.
serial number: *213X98132*.
My problem is that the rear lift does not work at all.
I can lift the lift arms by hand when tractor is running or not and there is a small clunck clunck clunck, as I do this, that is coming from under the top lift cover. Is this normal?
I have drained the hyd/trans oil and removed both the pto side cover and the dipstick side cover to clean the hydraulic filter and to look at the operating rods.
Through the dipstick side hole in the casing I can see two push rods that move when I operate the draft and position quadrant levers, it seems however, that the end of the position push rod misses the actuation arm. Please see photos attached. Should the top rod ends make contact with the thin edge of the actuation arm or should it slide past as it is doing?
Thanks in advance.

Unsure if the retaining pin for the actuating arm shown in the above image is installed on yours.

Thank you Mike. I Will check this out and let you know how I get on.
Might not be for a few days though, as we have bad thunder storms here in Spain at the moment.
Thanks again for your suggestion.

G'Day casacarob.
Everything looks o.k. in the photographs you have shown, the springs and rods look normal.
It is normal to be able to lift the linkage arms by hand the lift piston inside has a heavy link rod and that is what you hear clunk when you lift and lower the linkage.
If you put the DRAFT lever in the UP position that is all the way back ( Draft lever is the lever nearest the mudguard ).
Then with the engine STOPPED operate the POSITION control lever up and down ,there is a small roller ,about 8 mm dia that contacts the linkage that comes from the top of the housing ,this is the one that moves when you move the position control lever up and down, the roller should stay in contact with the adjusting screw at all times if it loses contact at any time when you are moving the lever the control valve may be seized or stuck,if so try giving the control valve a few quick flicks back and forth.
If this does not work let me know and I will take you one step farther.
regards.
Hutch.

Hi Shona13 & Mike476.
Thank you both very much for your info, on further investigation, after trying out your suggestions and ruling out these measures, I decided to remove the top lift cover.
Once this was removed I found to my dismay that several important pieces had been removed and were missing. These include Pressure control valve, diaphram housing, the pipe that joins them and the pump control valve lever.
This is very unfortunate as the rest of the tractor is in very good condition and it is now obvious that some idiot has had the hydraulic system apart and has lost these parts, then they have decided to put the lift cover back on.
I will be buying these parts to get the old girl up and running again, it will however, be a longer project than I first thought.
Once again many thanks for your input Hutch & Mike, Have a great Christmas time and an even better new year.
Rob.

Sorry to hear that, no accounting for what someone was thinking when removing the components.

Hope you and yours enjoy a wonderful Holiday Season!

G'Day cascarob.
It is posible for the tractor to operate without the parts you mention.
Sometimes for whatever reason the pressure control part of the system is removed from the hydraulic pump and lift cover ,it seems that your tractor is one of such tractor.
The hydraulic system will function without the pressure controlsystem Except that there will be no pressure control and unless you specifically need to be able to control the pump PRESSURE I would not replace the misssing parts ,The most important thing to check is that a HYDRAULIC PRESSURE RELIEF VALVE HAS BEEN FITTED TO THE PUMP otherwise the pump has no overpressure protection and will EXPLODE
Make sure the valve is fitted if not the part number is 1662591M91 or if you want a little more pressure use a 883402M92 there will be a plug in the pump ,remove the plug and fit the relief valve.
I hope this information is of some help.

I would like also to wish yourself and all the members of the fourum a pleasant and merry christmas and a happy new year.

Regards from Down Under.

Thank you Hutch Shona13.

This is very interesting information, I will Get my part list and workshop manual back out and see if I can work out a remedy to this problem.
I probably will go without pressure control as I am sure the pressure relief valve is still fitted.
Much head scratching and frustration ahead me thinks.
Thanks again.
Rob.
