1965 Massey ferguson 65 diesel
Hi there I am trying to hook up a small wood chipper to the pto of an old (60's) Massey Ferguson 65 diesel. The tractor has the 2 spool valve on the hydraulics and all the pumps seem to be working fine I am just not sure the right way to hook this chipper up. The chipper has a hydraulic feed on it so it calls for a fluid to be sent and then returned (I am not too well versed in the hydraulic lingo). I have one line coming off the outside valve and the valve further under the seat, the inside, is capped off. The inside valve affects the 3pt hitch and needs to be locked towards the operator in order for the up down lever that controls the 3pt hight to function. Should I connect a hose to the capped off inside port and send the fluid back in that way? Or from my research on here some people have said that tap into some other bolt somewhere on the machine as a return. So if thats what I should do where is this bolt located and then what should my lever orientation be to operate the feed on the chipper? Thanks for any help any one can give.

here is a bad pic of the 2 spool valve

I am assuming you only have a two spool valve at the rear and your 3pt hyd.

I am also assuming the chipper feed is a hyd motor.

If you have a set of work ports available from the valve, you can probably add QD's and plug in the chipper hyd and lock the lever open with bungee cord.

Does the chipper have it own valve, and if so, you need to feed a constant flow from your tractor.

If that is a remote valve, it will take all the pump flow, leaving nothing for downstream operation.

If the remote valve has PB, you can add a hose and QD for the chipper, and plug in the chipper valve. When you are not using the PB QD, just loop it back to the 3pt input.

Thanks for your response. I'm not sure what you mean when you say PB? And your assumptions are correct. The chipper does have its own valve. My main issue is that I can not figure out how to return the fluid back to the reservoir. I tried today to hook the return into the other port and had no luck. It seemed like the lines to the chipper were getting pressure but the fluid just had no where to go. No matter what the lever position I could not get the hydraulic feed to function. I think that if I can get the port that is not connected with the 3pt to act and a send for fluid with a bungee and tap somewhere into the machine as a return it could work. I really just to find the best place to return the fluid? Any help would be appreciated

Some people return the fluid directly to tank.
