Hey everyone, I’m getting ready to do some work with the Massey 65 I purchased, and I have some questions about the 3 point setup.

From the picture above, you can see I have a sway bar on the left side of the tractor, but not one on the right. The existing bar appears to be locked up. There is also 2 chains attached to to the 3 point bars, and one is broke. My question is, what’s the best system to keep the implants from swaying? Should I replace the seized up sway bar, and add another to the right side? Eliminate the chains?

My next question related to the first picture, is that the adjustment handle on the vertical bar on the right side is seized up. Is this general repairable, or do I need to replace it?

Lastly, according The the two pictures directly above, my 3 point arms appear to have been adjustable at one point, where the actual pin from the implement inserts into the end of the 3 point arm. The arms would have extended in and out. These have been welded closed. But at the very end where the pin inserts, it is loose/wobbly. Probably a 1/2” of play. Do you think the setup is original?

Overall, I need to run a brush hog and drag box. I’m debating on what needs replaced. Does anyone have any advice? I definitely don’t want and side to side movement. I’d prefer to stay with original parts on the machine, but am not opposed to buying new, updated parts either.

Thanks everyone!

The correct nomenclature is Lower Link stabilizer. There should be one on each side. Two replacements should be fairly cheap from web venders.

There are two chains attached to to the 3 point bars, and one is broken.

These are called limit chains. They are a fail safe to prevent implements from colliding with rear tires and limit stress to threaded stabilizers. There should be a limit chain on each side.

The correct nomenclature is right Lifting Rod with leveling box. Threads are likely destroyed.
Component parts are available.

Existing Lower Links not original.
Telescoping Lower Links make implement mounting easier. Without adjustment you have to move the tractor or jockey an implement repeatedly with an iron spud bar to insert Lower Link 7/8" pins.

Jeff, thanks for the informative and detailed explanations. I’ve just placed an order for the stabilizer bars. I’m still debating on what type of lower links to purchase.

Jeff, could you also help me out in figuring out what this portion of the tractor does? There appears to be a rubber ball thing behind what I believe is called the upper link arm. Sorry, no, I have not encountered a fitting like that.

Good pictures. Someone else will tell you what that is.

Looks like the dust boot for the draft sensing spring, used mostly for plowing.
