I'm getting ready to change engine oil on my Hydrostatic Massey 1734 E and just wanted to get some input on Oil Type and Filter. AGCO is selling two filters . One is for hydrostatic and one is not but there' a big price difference. Hydrostatic costs twice as much. How critical is it to get the one calling for hydrostatic. Also what type oil is best in 1734 E model. Viscocity etc. ? Any advice appreciated.
Thank You.

I don't have Massey, I have Kubota. Oil, hydraulic, and HST filters are all different sizes. You do definitely want to use the appropriate filter for your HST transmission. I believe it's a finer filter than your hydraulic filter. Think of repair costs and go with the correct filter in the proper place.

I use a factory filter for my MILs MF 1750M. For oil I used Rotella T6 5w-40. I would recommend using the MF filter for the hydro for sure. Look in the owner's manual for they type of hydro oil when it comes time and/or ask a MF dealer. Don't come on here and ask people. Too nice of a tractor to take chances or cut corners on those items. JMO.

Why is the motor oil filter different if it’s a hydro transmission? Lack of engine bay clearance for a larger filter, maybe?

motor has 2 spin on filters and depending on the serial number one is a different part number.
I glanced at the mechanical transmission one and looked like same engine oil filter numbers but don't quote me on that.
