Massey 1648

Looking at a Massey 1648 hydrostat, comes with front end loader and backhoe. My concerns are 4x4 front axle reliability and parts availability, i currently own a Massey 1020 that is near impossible to get parts for and has a horrible front axle design. Any input would be much appreciated, thank you.

The Massey 1648 is one heck of a lot more tractor than you have with the 1020 ! Also your parts availability is going to grow exponentially !

I have the MF 1040 for the past 20 plus years and it has been a great tractor. But you are correct on parts availability. I will say my MF1040 probably weights more than any tractor out there today in that HP range. I believe my tractor is 3700 lbs without the MF232 loader on it. That thing is a beast ! I paid $6000 over 20 years ago and have not had any major parts failures.

Getting back to your question, I dont think you could go wrong with that tractor if the price is right ! Best of luck in your decision !
