First let me say I have been a long time fan of Massey, but the dealers are few and far between in Vermont. I am down to two tractors. Massey 1547 Powershuttle with 1530 loader and 1580 Backhoe v. Kubota 4630 GST LA853 loader and BH90 backhoe. I like Kubotas larger backhoe and GST, but still partial to the Massey as far as the specs go everything is very close. All opinions welcome. Thanks

As far as transmissions go, the QPS is closer to a GST than a PS. The QPS is essentially a PowerShuttle and PowerShift combined. It is a fantastic transmission. The next time that I trade tractors, if I get another compact it will have a QPS.

I was looking at the same comparison (though less the backhoe) a while back when I thought I was going to end up with more land than I purchased. (now looking at 3830 vs 1540) I had some seat time on both and like both. I would go so far to say as performance specs go, in most conditions you would never realize a performance advantage either way. Said another way more simply, you should be able to do the same tasks with either one. Of more importance (in my opinion) is the dealership service/relationship, operator comfort, and price difference (which you didn't mention).

Sure there are pros/cons to each machine. For example, I liked the seat and room of the 4630 platform better than the Massey, but think I like the factory installed FEL joystick on the tractor (1547) better than on the loader (4630).

When it really gets down to it though, you will adjust to the specific features your tractor has. Just make sure you get the big things you have to have.... Some seat time in each should help you decide what is best as well. Have fun shopping...

As for me, I will take a 3830, with a curved FEL (a la Deere) a fender mounted joystick (a la New Holland) all painted Massey Red!

Also, if financing is an issue, Massey has the edge right now advertising 0% for 36M vs. 2.99% for 36M w/Kubota.

Jerry you are correct about the transmissions and that is what has lead me to the 4630 gst (Still like gear vs. hydro)
The QSP is only available in the Massey cab models, which I am not getting.

As far as the tractors go no one in my area has either one in stock so its a waiting game. The Massey dealer is 50 miles and I would be buying the 4630 out of state based soley on price. Each machine is cash sale - 4630 w/ FEL skid steer QA and BH - $32,000. 1547 W/ FEL skid steer QA, BH - $31,000.

There are some really nice features to the 1547 like joy stick placement, clear hydro level view and the fact that all my 3 pt attachments are Massey. (not a real issue)

As far as the 4630 goes..three positives the GST transmission is awesome, even though I would be buying out of state there are many Kubota dealers right next door, and the BH is a larger unit. One negative is the hydro coupler for the FEL are right next to the gas tank making it difficut to fuel.

the $1,000 dolllars makes this a toss up!!!!
