I have a neighbor that has a Massey 1533 and our of curiosity I looked up the specs on the tractor (as I have on many other tractors).

Tractordata has the Breakout force listed as 1841 lbs and the Lift to Full Height at pin as 1900 lbs. The specs for every other tractor I have looked at are the other way around. Usually the Breakout force is many hundreds of pounds more than the Lift at Full Height at pin, which seems to make a lot more sense. Tractors seem to be stronger at the bottom and then lose some strength as the load is lifted higher.

How is it that on this tractor it is the other way around?

Yeh, That is incorrect.
Full height is around 1630 at the pin depending on the exact bucket, and 1930 at 1.5 meters height. The pin is behind the bucket, so actual buket capacity will be proportionately less depending on where in the bucket front to back the load is. Depending on loader arm position pin, or bucket measurement, and load position in the bucket, breakout force ranges from 1850-2960 lb

The specs that I see from most manufacturers are ambiguous at best. Seems like it would be much clearer if they all just gave the lift capacity at the bucket pivot pins. But then again, I'm sure they prefer to remain ambiguous. :)

I always thought that breakout force was the amount of force the machine generates curling the bucket up with the tilt cylinders. Many factors come into play, the size of the bucket or more specifically the length of the lip plays a major part in the force a machine is able to generate. The longer the lip (the further the distance from the tilt cylinders to the end of the bucket) the less force that it can generate. What type of bucket is used to achieve the published numbers, I don't know. I would imagine the shortest lip bucket the machine can be equipped with. Other factors that influence it is mounting geometry of the quick tach, mounting geometry of tilt cylinders and hydraulic pressure.

Thank you kindly for the responses.

I have been considering purchasing a tractor after my neighbor let me borrow his tractor after a hurricane down here left a mess on my property about a year and half ago. It really simplified the cleanup and helped me save countless hours. Now, I spend time thinking of all kinds of things I could do with a tractor. And, I have been reading tons of threads on here about all kinds of issues and have come to understand that many factors (in addition to those indicated by Xfaxman) come into play for the determination of lift figures such as the geometry of the loader arms, the length of the loader arms, the maximum lift height, etc. I just had not come across any tractors that had a Lift to Full Height at pin higher than the Breakout Force, regardless of the maximum lift or lift height of the loader, so that stumped me.

I tend to agree with you xpalen that looking at the brochures can be confusing. I have been considering the LS line if going new and the manufacturer information for the same tractor varies depending on the brochure you look at.

That is why I guessed that going with the information from TractorData was the best bet. But, DarkBlack indicated that those figures for the Massey 1533 may be wrong.

Is there another website other than TractorData that has the specifications for the various tractors that is more reliable? I have looked at a few of the alternate websites but it seems that they are gathering information from TractorData so essentially use the same figures for the tractors that I have looked at.

Is the the Lift to Full Height at pin of 1630 from a Massey 1533 brochure?
