I have looked through the threads of others with power steering leaks coming from the steering box below the steering wheel. The fluid on mine seems to leak from the steering arms, plates on side and air vent at the top. I noticed that one of my side plates was only hand tight and that is an easy fix.

What I did not notice from those threads is what causes the oil to come out the air vent at the top. A tractor supply place told me that if the filter that is located in the power steering pump is full, it could cause the back pressure? Anyone know for sure what causes this to happen?

My read of the owners manual of my 2135 mentions there is SAE90 mineral oil in the power steering housing box (1 US Qt.), seperate from the Power Steering Fluid (2/3 Qt of Type 'A' ATF at Reservoir + lines/box/lines/cylinders)

Ya, my Power assist MS 135 steering box leaks too. But I just filled it up.
Mine,, has no connection to anything hydraulic. It;s a box in itself.
I'm thinking of a way to pump grease in, instead of anything that weeps out of old and probably unavailable bushings and seals.

Thanks Cromagnum but I have hydraulic lines between the power steering pump and the steering box. Since my original post I have replaced most the the seals. Right now the leak is only coming from the air vent on steering box. And it leaks bad once it gets started. Wish someone knew what causes this to happen.

Do you have a "Cylinder" attached to your steering box that just helps the steering, or do you have cylinders at the front wheels?

The pump and reservoir are at the front of the engine and supply the fluid through two hydraulic lines to the steering box. I stopped and talked to a tractor repair place. He informed me that the reason the fluid leaks out the air vent on steering box is that the seals located in the steering shaft are bad. I replaced the seals around the control arms. Now I know what to do. The bad thing is I have to take off the dash again.

we have a local rubber and hose place. Most towns of some size do. Just take the hose you have and they will replace with new fittings.

But they have a lot of bends in them. Can we buy from Massey still?
