Hello,
My 1972 135 (Perkins Diesel) refused to start today. Heard a little static at the ign switch, next time I turned the key, the hot wire to the switch started smoking. The wire was old with bad insulation so I replaced it from the ammeter down to the switch. Nothing. Pulled the plug back off the ign swithc and jumped the contact from the ammeter to the neutra switch. Nothing. Have juice from the hot wire to the neutral switch but nothing going out to the Solenoid.
Figured I had a bad neutral switch but as I closed the engine cover, the jumper wire started smoking. The tractor had been sitting with the jumper connected for almost an hour, no juice flowing. I yanked it out the jumper wire, the wire to the ammeter and to the neutral were both rather warm. So I 'm starting it with a screwdriver right now.
Is it possible that the neutral switch is shorting to ground somehow and causing the wires to overheat? Is there something I am missing? Don't feel like replacing the neutral and still having the same problem.
Anyone have any experence with this problem or knows enough to help me? Thanks to any that can help.
