Oil & Fuel Massey 135 diesel smoking & skipping?? any ideas???

Hey Guys,
Just recently my Massey 135 diesel started smoking pretty bad. It started as just heavy light blue smoke and couple days later it would be same light blue smoke and after bushhogging for an hour it would start bogging down and then black smoke would boil out the pipe. I would idle down and then ease rpm's back up and it will do fine for few minutes then do it again. Any ideas what is going on.

Couple of things....1. Clean your air filter...black smoke says it isn't getting enough air.....2...check your radiator for chaff/clogging...does your heat guage work...is it running in the "cool side" of the normal range? bobg in va

I will check the air filter but I am not sure what chaff means? My heat gauge does work and temp is in normal range.Never gets over 180 degrees.I will walk out and check air filter. I have had the tractor 3yrs and never changed that!

Yes as BobG said check the air filters ,Both of them Take the large one out and there is another safety element in there ,also check VERY CAREFULLY the air intake hose that goes from the air cleaner to the inlet manifold make sure it is in good condition ,no cracks or cuts and make sure the hose clamps are on properly also the hose has not gone all soft and is collapsing when the engine is running at high revs.
Another thing to check is the exhaust system ,make sure the exhaust pipe has not been squashed and restricting exhaust flow although if it was the tractor would be doing its thing all the time.
