Massey 135 Battery Size

Hi there,
Does anyone know the appropriate 'group' size for a MF135 GAS Perkins? I can measure the box and shop about but if there is a standard 'group' that fits that would be easier. If there is a battery from the diesel model that fits for similar money I would take that route for some extra capacity.

If your tractor is still original equipment, the operators manual describes it as a 12V 40 amp hour negative ground. Your average car battery should be more than enough as long as if fits on the platform and not too tall. Top mounted post. On the seat facing forward looking under the hood the starter is on the left side (Continental). Thus the + side is on the left as well to mate to your correct cables. You can undersize a battery but not oversize it as long as it safely fits. The original 135 battery was relatively small (amperage) by todays standards. The ampmeter only measured 30+ and 30- amps, so back then the battery was slightly rated higher than the gauge.

My 1964 MF135 diesel starts fine with a 650 CCA car battery (12V, negative ground).

I went with a 65 that fit perfect in my 69 diesel 135.
