So, my Massey is almost back in fighting shape. I'm running into an issue with the 3 point Hydraulics. While at idle, it raises, but shaky. Idle up, no issues raising or lowering. The other issue is that it won't hold the attachment up when the tractor is shut off, it automatically lowers it to the ground. Any ideas?

Worn pump or pump control valves, you can take of the round cover on the right side and run the tractor and you .ay see where it's leaking.

Did you any work on pump or removed the cover that holds the lifting cylinder?

Didn't work on the pump at all or remove response plate. Only hydraulic work done at this point was replacing the fluid.

What oil did you use?

TSC Traveller Premium. Meets specs of the MF 1129 fluid. Contacted dealership and they agreed as well.

Would have started to measure the pressure from the pump if you have a gauge. You could check the pipe that goes from the pump to the top, it ends under the cover under the seat, it can be a leak in the o rings.

There are multiple places to look for leaks. These are among the more common:
  • stand pipe connections
  • hydraulic lift cylinder (piston rings)
  • pump control valve
It's also possible, but not likely, that a casting may have cracked.

As mentioned, there are o-rings (with back-up washers) which seal the stand pipe and transfer plate. You can start by removing the inspection port and watch / listen as the 3-point lifts/leaks down; you might be able to spot a leak (as a stream or drip). A mechanics mirror is a helpful. tool. I've found several leaks, including one on the MF 135 pump control valve. My advice is to have all the o-rings, backup washers and gaskets in hand before you start disconnecting things. You might be suprised see how p.o.'s take apart and don't re-assemble correctly and leave parts missing. Good luck, I hope you find the leak(s) (there might be more than one) and get the issue resolved.

Did the 135's when new come filled from the factory with the lighter universal type fluid or were they like the earlier 35's and filled with 90 weight mineral oil?

For MF 135, use fluid meeting Massey Ferguson M-1129A (Permatran) specification.
Pro Tip: Try Coastal Multitrac (available at AutoZone).
