Working on getting one
I picked this engine up a few weeks ago. I got it from an older guy who seemed a straight shooter. He showed me a video of it running before he took it out. He had a bunch of health conditions and no longer could do the project he was going to use it in. And I don't want to bother him with questions with his health problems.

Am actually planning on swapping this into an old bobcat I have work a dieing engine. The price was right on this deal so it was worth the gamble. But I got some questions about it before I test fire it up.

The rod is for the throttle correct?

What's the lever for?

Whats that blue circle piece?

What's the deal with the pump looking piece?

Other question is what typically shuts down these engines? A fuel solonoid?

I'm just guessing, that is an older engine. Is it old enough that the fuel pump is all mechanical? I don't know, but looks like it might be. Older diesel engines had a mechanical shut off at the fuel pump that basically turned the engine off. That could be what your "lever" very well could could be the pump shutoff. A 730 John Deere works that way, but it was made in the late 1950's. An allis Chalmers 185 works that way and it was made in the 1970's up until 1981. A b7100 Kubota worked that way and the one I had was made in the late 1970's. I know that is an older engine, I just don't know if it is old enough to be all mechanical. Hopefully some one will chime in that really knows that engine.

Thanks, I think you might be right on the lever. Looks to be an old mechanical diesel.

Once again I'm just guessing. I studied you picture a little more. Your "pump looking thing" might be a hydraulic pump. My allis Chalmers 185 is set up in a similar configuration
As for the "round blue thing", it may be where a coolant/block heater went. A block heater usually hooks into a freeze plug. Someone may have removed the block heater and plugged it. At any rate a block heater is a good thing to have if you live in a cold climate. Once again, I'm just guessing, I'm not very familiar with that engine.

Blue circle piece might be the remnants of a block heater. Are there other frost plugs on the engine block at the same height? If so, that would be my best guess.

I own a MF 1010 and the engine is similar. The rod in the first figure is for the throttle. The level is used to kill the engine. Turning the ignition off doesn't kill the engine. Pulling on the lever does. The fuel pump is mechanical and it does require lubrication (not part of engine lubrication). In the second picture, the blue circle looks like it is the location of a freeze plug. The second arrow looks like a none standard connection to the hydraulic pump.
