Massey 1030 Clutch/Release Bearing???

First off Novice Tractor User. Mechanically savy but never with tractor before.

I have an 1986 Massey 1030. After being parked for a month or so I went to use the other day and I would not go in gear. Grinding, etc when running and trying to shift. Will Shift fine when engine is off, finally forced in gear and clutch pedal does nothing, lots of pedal and resistance??? I hear maybe the throwout/release bearing may be stuck??? If so, does this mean I have to split the tractor or does anyone have any advice?

Well not sure if the throwout bearing is stuck, but if it is spliting the tractor is the only way to go. you could try adjusting the pedal free play, Also you could try the access hole on the right side of the clutch housing. you can have someone work the cluthc and try to get a small mirror into the hole and see if you can see what is happening.

If you do have to split the tractor it is not too bad, finding parts is a whole seperate issue. I have been looking for front axel castings for 6 months and no luck.

I just had the identical problem with my 1985 mf 1020
I had mech split tractor to replace bearing to fix
while split also put in new clutch , about 1800 hours
bearing was self lubricating and just dried out from age
