I bought a Maschio Gaspardo sickle bar mower new on a pallette. I am trying to assemble it. Page 40, step 7a, of the manual shows the sickle bar disassembled with the blades and blade guide removed. An inset picture shows the bar guide being slid out from the side. The blade bar comes out, but the guide bar does not. I cannot get this to work. The bolts that hold the bar teeth in prevent the bar guide from sliding out. It seems that this must be out before I can attach the bar to the frame of the mower. Does anyone know how to do this, or am I reading it wrong?
I am attaching a scan of the page, and a link to the manual.
Thanks

I am surprised you say there are bolts used to attach the teeth. Mine has flush rivits holding the teeth just like the blades. Mine is not the same
brand as yours but it was made in Italy and looks very similar. On mine I can slide the blade bar with all the triangular blades rivited to it and the teeth
bar with all the pointy teeth rivited to it out from the C shaped guides which
are bolted onto the main bar. It looks exactly like what your manual is saying
for you to do. I wonder if you are looking at it the right way? How about posting a picture or two.

What you call "blades" are usually called "sickle sections" (the triangular cutting pieces) and what you call "guides" are usually called "guards" since one of their functions is to protect the sections from obstacles like rocks. The guards usually carry "ledger plates" which are part of the sickle bar cutting mechanism. The steel bar that carries the sickle sections is called the "back".

So you're able to slide the back with the sickle sections (the blade bar) out of the guards with no problem. That's how my MF31 sicklebar works also and is pretty much the standard way most sicklebar mowers are set up. In the photo, the guards are the green parts and are attached to the main bar assemble with the large nuts and bolts. I replaced the rivets with bolts and lock nuts to attach the sickle sections to the back.

The guards on my MF31 have to be removed individually which appears to be how your sicklebar mower is set up.

I got it assembled and working, but now I have broken two teeth on a steel pipe hidden in the weeds. Do you know a good place to order teeth and rivets from? Sounds like you have the same type sickle mower that I have.

That looks like a double action mower setup. We sell the superior brand and the cuting blade with the triangular sections is installed and removed from the end. Ours has 1 section at the very end with a hole in it. This is where a special hand held tool attaches to pull out the blade. The blade head is removed from the cutter blade on ours before removal or instalation. Ken Sweet

As a kid we had John Deere sickle mowers. We called the the whole unit that slides out the sickle. Each individual triangle was a section. The back or bar the that the sections rivet to was called the sickle bar. The round piece were the "jaws" attached to to move the sickle was called the head. The tool that worked slick to pull out the sickle was a 4' chunk of chain with a hook that went around the head to pull it out. The large metal bar that the guides or guards (we called them guards) bolted to was the guard bar and the large end guard was called the shoe. Have fun mowin:D

If you need parts, Email me a sheet from your parts breakdown with the items circled--to sweet@scrtc.com or fax to 270-528-3333. We can take care of your parts needs. Ken Sweet
