I'm planning on trading up to a 6' cutter when I purchase the new M7040 from Brady Barlow. Only problem is, I want a Woods BB720 and he's not a Woods Ag dealer. He's a Woods construction dealer and can get BH's and such but not farm implements. I have a Woods BB600 (medium duty) cutter now and it's been flawless over the years. I've used it hard in the woods and the things I've put it through without damage have amazed me. So I'd really like to stay with what has worked so well.

Barlow is a Land pride dealer. I've spent hours researching the Land pride rotary cutters and even though they have a good reputation, I'm not that impressed when comparing to the Woods product. The "stump jumper" pan is smaller diameter, the blade tip speed is lower, it doesn't have a quick change blade pins, the tail wheel support looks to be of a lesser design, the top link attachment point is a standard clevis type (Woods has a flex link design) and the price point seems to be higher....

A cutter is one of my most used implements and I need it to be tough. I'm not just cutting pasture. I'm in the woods maintaining trail, making new trail, widening areas and chewing up trees and brush. I don't see how I could be happy with the Land pride after knowing what my Woods will do and how the two are spec'd differently.

I know I need to talk to Brady about it, but I'm not to that point yet. So far we've talked only through emails and I'm waiting a few months before I make the big purchase. Right now I'm just trying to get everything planned and worked out on what I'll be buying. Brady said that there was another dealer in town that sold Woods Ag and there for he couldn't. Maybe I could work out a trade with them on just the cutters?.. I'd like to finance the difference with the tractor, but that doesn't seem possible unless I go with Landpride...

Can anyone comment on the durability of the Land pride RCR26 when used on a higher HP tractor in tough cutting conditions? Can someone sell me on the RCR26 and maybe explain away some of the shortcomings I've found with it?..

Here are links to compare..

I believe rjkobbeman uses one on his M8540, so if he doesn't respond, you might want to contact him.

We use a Woods DS1260 on our M8540 as it seemed more rugged than a comparable Land Pride.

I do use a Land Pride RCR2672 on my L5030. We use both tractors in the same stuff and the Land Pride cuts anything the Woods will.

I bought the Land Pride when I bought my tractor as a package deal though the tractor was used and I paid cash, so there was no real incentive to buy one over the other.

We have only used this cutter for a year, so I can't speak to long term durability.

The quick blade change is handy, but the blades hold up so well, it really wasn't a consideration on either. We used and still own a Woods 121, so blade change on either of the others will be a snap.

I can't tell you the Land Pride is as good as the Woods as I've not used one, but it was my choice.

Good luck.

Thanks for the post Triple.
I appreciate and value your prospective.

I've been looking over the spec's on the two again and just don't think I'll be happy with the Land pride cutter. I agree the blade bolt design isn't that big of a deal, but the overall design of the Land Pride just doesn't as robust as the Woods. The two big factors for me are the deeper deck (12.6" compared to 9 1/8") and the more than 1,000 FPS faster blade speed on the Woods. I'm planning on this cutter lasting me a long time and don't want to have any regrets. Guess I'm just going to have to pay cash for a new cutter.

Yep, better to buy what you want in the first place. Our DS1260 appears and I believe is much stronger than a comparable Land Pride.

My L5030 will never tax the RCR26 and we will never use it on anything bigger, so it works really well for me.

If we had not needed the 10' cut, this would have been my choice for our M8540; I really like the dual tail wheels.

If it were me doing this deal with Barlows.
I know they discount the price of their tractors. If they discounted a tractor $2500 and added a Woods mower that cost $2500 and brought their tractor back up to retail price and financed that for you then it would all be financed. In other words, buy the tractor at full retail including a free Woods mower. OK, they get the money from KCC for full retail and take $2500 of it to the Woods dealer and buy a mower to bring with the delivery. Adjust the prices accordingly.

Yeah, the Brush Bull HD is an awesome cutter. As heavy duty as the Mediums are, those Heavy models must be indestructible. If I was planning on more hours per year cutting, I'd be looking at one for sure.

Very good idea John. See, that's why I need to talk to Brady. He most likely would have suggested something close to the same. I'm sure there's a way to work this out. I guess I just needed to post my thoughts on this as a way to reassure my decision to stay with the Woods brand. Even though it will be a more complicated purchase....

Tractor fever.....:confused2:

I'm not seeing it as "complicated" if the discount and cost of Woods mower are close. Just a bit of creativity and Brady can be creative, I'm sure..

Where in VA are ya? I believe there is a new Woods dealer around Ashland (near Richmond) and when I was looking a month or so ago they were selling their implements at a discount....kind of a "grand opening" type sale.

I have neither a Woods or Landpride hog BUT.... the one thing I can say for sure - if it is not what YOU want I doubt you will ever be happy. I have been in similar situation and bought the one that would do and was not really what I wanted and I never was really happy. Sounds like the Woods is perfect for you so I would not purchase the Landpride. If anything, even minor, goes wrong with the Landpride you are always going to think I should have bought the Woods.
