I'm planning on trading up to a 6' cutter when I purchase the new M7040 from Brady Barlow. Only problem is, I want a Woods BB720 and he's not a Woods Ag dealer. He's a Woods construction dealer and can get BH's and such but not farm implements. I have a Woods BB600 (medium duty) cutter now and it's been flawless over the years. I've used it hard in the woods and the things I've put it through without damage have amazed me. So I'd really like to stay with what has worked so well.
Barlow is a Land pride dealer. I've spent hours researching the Land pride rotary cutters and even though they have a good reputation, I'm not that impressed when comparing to the Woods product. The "stump jumper" pan is smaller diameter, the blade tip speed is lower, it doesn't have a quick change blade pins, the tail wheel support looks to be of a lesser design, the top link attachment point is a standard clevis type (Woods has a flex link design) and the price point seems to be higher....
A cutter is one of my most used implements and I need it to be tough. I'm not just cutting pasture. I'm in the woods maintaining trail, making new trail, widening areas and chewing up trees and brush. I don't see how I could be happy with the Land pride after knowing what my Woods will do and how the two are spec'd differently.
I know I need to talk to Brady about it, but I'm not to that point yet. So far we've talked only through emails and I'm waiting a few months before I make the big purchase. Right now I'm just trying to get everything planned and worked out on what I'll be buying. Brady said that there was another dealer in town that sold Woods Ag and there for he couldn't. Maybe I could work out a trade with them on just the cutters?.. I'd like to finance the difference with the tractor, but that doesn't seem possible unless I go with Landpride...
Can anyone comment on the durability of the Land pride RCR26 when used on a higher HP tractor in tough cutting conditions? Can someone sell me on the RCR26 and maybe explain away some of the shortcomings I've found with it?..
Here are links to compare..
