Mahindra selling customer info to John Deere?

I guess Mahindra is selling our contact information to John Deere. I've never done business with, nor sought to do any business with John Deere, yet they are sending me promotional sales material... They say they want to buy my Mahindra.

I received the same mailing from Deere yesterday, asking me to trade in my Kubota, and I have never visited a Mahindra dealership.

I signed up for TSC's rewards program last month. I suspicion TSC is where Deere obtained the combination of my address and tractor information.

So Kubota is selling customer information to Deere also? Interesting... I don't think Deere is running credit checks on everyone to see if they've financed a tractor of another brand, they're buying the info from someone. If they're not buying info from other manufacturers, how can they know what we own?

I have no idea how they are getting the info, but they are, right down to what model you have. 3-4 years ago they offered me $3000 more for my tractor than I paid for it. :shocked: I asked the local JD dealer about it and he knew nothing about it. Said that they would honor the offer if I decided to go with a JD. It was clear that the offer was only good if I traded for an equal or greater sized machine.

Don't read too much into it.

First off, there's no real benefit to Mahindra to give/sell this sort of data to a direct competitor.

Ever receive a letter soliciting a refinance on your home, complete with total principal and/or amount owed on your mortgage? They get that data from credit reporting sources. As a credit offeror themselves, they don't need your authorization to do so. There are various degrees of credit reporting, this would fall under a "pre-approval" type of thing.

Similarly, John Deere Finance can look at the version of your credit report which creditors can see without your permission, and easily determine that you have a debt with Mahindra Finance for a certain amount of money. It's pretty easy for them to get the model based on the amount of money involved. They also may be able to get certain make/model information from the insurer - it's not necessarily protected info.

It may be that JD got your information from the public records, particularly if you had to register the tractor either for sales tax, or property taxes.

But you could be correct...Mahindra may be selling their mailing list.

FWIW I have not rec'd any JD material since I owned my Mahindra. (about 6 months)

I got one in the mail. I buy stuff from TSC, but never have told them what type of tractor I have, for I have had John Deere's, too. TBN has my info, but I don't think they have my address... [ ??????? ]

Public information. One place is under your avatar... it says you have a Mahindra 4035HST.. and live in Fairmont WV.. Here I am way over here in Branson Mo. and I know all of that.. Also the tax records for your county will have that information, is public information, also the loan information. . Lots places for people to get information about you. and it is all public and all legal, I can also find out about your income range, and your birthday, and anything else I would like to know about you. None of your information is secret or private.

I will bet you $100 that Mahindra is not selling that information to JD.. it is all public record.
