Mahindra Max 28 with MMM rant

I love my tractor but really get frustrated with the grill, grill screen, radiator and air filter getting plugged with grass, dust and crap when mowing. We have had decent rain this year so the problem is just now getting annoying since its been awhile since it rained. I read some earlier post where some were considering a oil bath to reduce the dust in the air filter. I have to find a solution to this, I had to stop three times today to clear the grill openings, on one of my stops I had to blow out the screen and radiator. Is there an acceptable way to reduce the amount of dust and debris that comes out of the front of the MMM. I have also considered rerouting my air intake to get it higher and out of the dust cloud.

I have a customer experimenting with installing a cyclone type pre-cleaner for the air intake, then running that pre-cleaned intake air into the factory air filter. Of course you can easily create problems if you did not size and route everything correctly, so I am not endorsing or encouraging this modification. But even so, I like the concept. I am a hobby wood worker and my woodshop has a cyclone style dust collector. I can collect 40 gallons of sawdust and have maybe a teaspoon in the large pleated paper air filter. The rest spins out in the cyclone and just drops into the barrel. I'd sure like to see that sort of arrangement on a tractor filter. I think the cyclone is a better idea than an oil bath pre-filter.

Another cool thing would be having the intake really high. Both are logistically difficult on small tractors.

As to sucking in the debris into the grill screens and radiator, some large expensive pieces of equipment come with a reversible fan. Very cool deal, but again not easy to pull off on a small relatively inexpensive tractor. It would be nice to just stop, hit a switch and let the fan reverse for a minute and see all the debris blow off.

These are problems typical to small tractors when running in dry dusty conditions. Some folks never ever run into this. And for other folks it can be frustrating. Kudos to you for keeping an eye on the filter and radiator.
