I have a Mahindra 4510. The fuel filter is low on the right side of the engine and when bush hogging saplings etc they have hit the filter and damaged it twice. The connections are only pressed in and then leak. There does not seem to be a real way to shield it. ]
I saw a smaller Mahindra that had the fuel filter higher and at the back of the tractor. It looks as if it offers more protection. I either need to shield it or reroute/relocate it.
Anyone else have this problem and even better --- a solution. Thanks

Haven't seen it mentioned personally. But I'd say you have the ideal solution in fabricating some sort of shield or relocating it altogether.

What kind of mess are you mowing to cause damage to a filter housing?

Actually nothing too big. Saplings perhaps 1.5 inches in diameter at most. Fairly thick, some slip under the front end loader and scrape along the right side before going under the bush hog. The elbow connections are just pressed in and contact breaks them loose and they then leak at the joint. It does not take much to cause this, I am on my second or third and the prior owner had the same problem. Also hose and hydraulic lines lower and underneath issues also, the prior owner bolted/welded in a 3/8 inch plate to protect the area.
A good enough tractor if in clean fields or very low vegetation but not good in brush or seed covered weeds. Also quickly blocks the radiator then too.
Nothing my much smaller Yanmar could not handle without such problems but I have my PTO back hoe on it and I do not want to switch.

Have you looked into re routing the housing? That's a discontinued model so im sure its out of warranty. They were nice running machines but had little this and that's that have been updated. Now they actually have the Mahindra T4 engine in them so will use bosh system engine filters

is your precleaner still on the radiator?

I will probably reroute in the fall. I have moved the battery lower to let more air in and have an auxiliary electric fan to help and occasionally put a furnace filter in front of the radiator to catch some debris. I have to air blow the radiator out after every use to dislodge chaft etc.
