Mahinra MAX 26 XL
High,
I'm a new member, looking at purchasing a sub-compact tractor. 75% lawn (3-4 acres), 20% 3-point work (gravel driveway/garden) and 5% loader work (snow removal/landscaping). Have spent months researching every brand out there, all have their +/-'s. it seems most of the big name"s have either, compromised their tractors by going using aluminum rear axles housing's, smaller displacement (higher RPM's), or plastic materials (hoods/fenders) and very complicated self attaching implements (what happens when it wears out). After all the research, it seems Mahindra has stayed true to what I consider a tractor, I'm not looking for a car that is liter for some reason or a machine that is over engineered. I'm looking for a solid, heavy duty (cast steel frame/axle housings), hand fabricated mower deck, simple tractor that is a tractor. That being said, can anyone give me any impute as to why I should consider any of the other brand over Mahindra? There seem to be limited conversations, when you compare Mahinras build quality, performance, simplicity. It seems the only performance issues are less HP, 3-point hydro. control, and a smaller operates station. Yet when it came performance numbers I had to jump up one or two sizes (24,26,28 HP) in the other brands to get compatible performance, and you still have aluminum verses cast steel.
So again can anyone help me, am I looking at the wrong info., or the wrong way.
Thank You

I've had an eMax 22 for about 2 1/2 years. It's done everything I need to do on my 8 acres. It does have the plastic hood and fenders and aluminum axle but that has been no issue. Overall it's a pretty stout little unit. You can't go too far wrong with it vs. something else.

Thanks for the feed back.
I guess I'm wondering, if the Mahindra is as good as the number portray it to be, why dose there seem to be limited feed back out there.
I have been a loyal orange owner (1978 B7100 gear) for many years, but they are made completely different today. Try operating anything on them below 1500 RPMs, look at the tiny engine size (you need to rev. to max), and again with the aluminum on both the green and orange. I will have to look into , aluminum on the Mahindras, because I have found no info., as to them using any in their tractors. These aren't smart cars their tractors meant to sometime be pushed.
I compare the build of Mahindras to the old school (compact) tractors, but yet you get almost all the new advances.
I guess their are just a lot of loyal green and orange owners out there that do not look at or care just how cheaply made their tractors are, based on performance numbers.
So again thanks for the feed back, I'll do a little more research (aluminum) before I decide.
But it sure looks like i'll be pushing more, pulling more and lifting more.

Hello e1440,

I was just curious have you looked at the Mahindra Max 24? Most of the information I have seen indicates that the Mitsubishi built Mahindra Max 24 (formerly known as the Max 22 and 25) is highly favored among Mahindra users. The eMax 22S should be fine (especially if it has the new upgraded steel hood and fenders). The Max 24 is an even beefier than the eMax machines. They outweigh (or did outweigh) the eMax machines by 150+ pounds. Of course if the eMax fits your budget better it will be a fine machine I'm sure. The eMax tractors have had some issues since they were first introduced (like weld beads on the loader buckets that might break, muffler breakage issues, fire hazard issue with the fuel line [I think it was], problems with wiring harnesses rubbing on the tractor and shorting out the PTO switch, etc.) but most of these issues have been ironed out. My dad had a 2014 eMax with a loader and mid mount mower, and he liked it. He did have the fuel hose issue and wiring harness issue; which was repaired by the dealer at no cost to him. I did not operate the tractor much myself, but I was impressed with it. My dad was able to handle several full buckets of wet sand with no problem and he didn't have any ballast weight on the rear of the tractor or have filled tires. To me, the Mahindra eMax and Max tractors seem a lot more impressive than the subcompact tractors available from other more well known brands.

The Mahindra tractors may not have the "creature comforts" like several of the more well know brands, but if that does not bother you - go for the eMax. :)

Have not look much into the Max 24, just seem to be a little large for my needs. Did look at engine, seem displacement, bore and stroke, RPMS are the same, do not know how they make more HP power (larger injectors?), maybe someone else know the answer to that?
Thank for the heads up on some of the Emax issues.
They may have ironed out some of them on the all new Emax 22 S. according to Mahindra the Emax S series tractors get a 34% more lift capacity on the 3-point/ 9% more loader lift capacity and 5% more height. Also beef-up frame, stronger drive shafts and stronger muffler along with the steel hood and fender.
The loader they have changed to a twin cylinder w/mechanical linkage for the bucket.
Hard to find them out there or actual pictures of the Emax S (something Mahindra needs to work on), but the dealer I have been to has one.
I was impressed with the Emax, only that more impressed with the S series. So again thanks for the info. I feel I'm going to go with the Emax 22 S, just seems to be the best fit and performance numbers put the other one to shame.

The eMax and Max 24 are basically the same size tractor. The Max is 24.4 horsepower and the eMax is/was 22 or 24 horsepower (depending on if it was an eMax 22 or eMax 25). The Max has a 1.3 liter Mitsubishi engine and the eMax has a 1.007 liter Daedong engine (Unless the engine and/or horsepower ratings have changed in the "S" series of eMax machines). They both have the same size tires, and about the same physical dimensions. They Mahindra Max tractors are built in Japan. The Mahindra eMax tractors are built in South Korea for Mahindra by the TYM tractor company.

Just be aware that the Mahindra eMax and Mahindra Max tractors are two different lines of Mahindra tractors - in the same horsepower range.

I am pretty sure Mahindra has taken (or is taking) care of the issues that eMax tractors have had since they were introduced three years ago(?).

Does you have any Mahindra literature that actually says "eMax S" on it? I was just curious. I have not, but that doesn't mean that it is not in circulation somewhere out there.

Enjoy your new machine when you get it e1440. You can go into the Mahindra forum section and let everyone know how your tractor is performing for you. :tractor::)

No literature other than new model announcements on the web., this seems to be something Mahindra needs to work on. But stopped back at the dealer, which have a eMax S, test drove, and inspected real good. I am now a currant owner of a Mahindra, eMax 22 S, with loader and 60" mower deck, should take delivery of it this evening.
Ill try to post the +/-'s as I rack-up hours, seems to be a tight, solid, tractor that covers all my needs at this point and allows me to expand with all the other attachments available.
Feel free to ask any questions as time go bye

? rear differential/axle housings super hot? For anyone out there, had my new Mahindra eMax 22hst S (wloader and 60" deck) droped of this evening. Unhooked loader, and used the tractor to cut grass for about 3hrs. Some heavy cutting first hour, used low range never lugged it down. And two hours of very light cutting, used high range. Then let idle to cool down for 2-4 minutes then shut it down. Allowed to cool down for approximity 1/2 hr, so I could clean off deck (w/garden hose). At the time of cleaning I noticed steam coming from rear of tractor. Stopped spraying water and cheaked (with my hand) differential/axle housings at the rear of the tractor for heat. It was so hot, even after sitting for a 1/2, I could not keep my hand on either point. I am a welder fabricator, and work in a fondry so when I say I was hot I mean HOT.
Allowed to cool down for another hour and it was still somewhat hot. Started up and had sure trans fan was working (it was), seemed to be good air flow out the back.
?? So has anyone noticed there eMaxes rear end runnig hot. Just seemed to be way to hot to be normal. I'm going to get a heat eter fro work tomorrow and monitor, I'll post some reading.
But again anyone out there notice there eMax heating up this much??
