Buying Advice Mahindra 7030

G'day,
I am considering purchasing a Mahindra 7030 tractor and would appreciate any thoughts as to its suitability. I run a few Angus cows on 400 acres of light sandy granite soil. I need a versatile tractor small and nimble enough to work in and out of trees and rocky outcrops spreading fertiliser, spraying with boom, wick wiping, slashing. FEL strong enough to lift 1tonne bags and do basic road works. Enough grunt to pull a 5 tyne yoemans subsoil plow 10-12 inches through the dirt. I currently pull the subsoiler with an old Chamberlain 70hp 2wd tractor, lots of weight does a good job, powered by 6cylinder Perkins. I am hoping the 4wd of the Mahindra would compensate for drop in hp, however the old tractor will not be going anywhere and can still be used for this or I can drop off a tyne or 2.
Is it ok to work the tractor hard continuously in 4wd without damaging transmission or voiding warranty? Does 4wd greatly reduce manouverability ie turning at end of row? Is it easy to engage/ disengage on the move?

I cant find 7030, but the 6530 has 65hp. Would assume 7030 would have 70 -- just a little less than my 7520. The 7520 basic tractor is 7000+ pounds. It has plenty of weight and grunt to do what you need - and full use of 4wd is no problem ... altho it turns a little sharper in 2wd. Im not sure how it compares to the 7030.

I think you must be talking about the 7060 Mahindra. You should have no problem with it doing your job.

Thanks for the feedback. Model numbering may be a bit differant in Australia, Mahindra Australia website lists 2 tractors in their 30 series utility tractors, the 6030 & 7030 being 59 & 65 hp respectively. The 7030 has a 3532cc naturally aspirated engine, it has the appearance of having plenty of power in the front end through large tyres with plenty of power and speed in the hydraulics. I just hope it is nimble enough and light enough to work easily around all the obstacles on my block.

I have a 4530 which is the same series only a bit less hp. The 30 sereis is a great tractor. I don't think you'll see the difference in the HP. I think you'd be happy with that choice.

Thanks for the reply. Yep thats the tractor. Is there enough power in the power steering to easily get those front wheels around obstacles? You see I am being a bit demanding, I want a tractor from both ends of the spectrum. Something that I can throw around with the light work yet still be able to pull the 5 tyne subsoiler. I have a few issues with the old hands & arms, this tractor is to make things a bit easier so I want to get it right.

The power steering is all hydraulic so it is very easy to turn the wheel, but it certainly doesn't have as small a turning radius as a compact tractor would.

Looks to be the same size as my 6520, only being it has 8 speeds to my 12. The 7060 is the emission changed model of the 6520, so I would think it has about the same about of brute strength mine has. I always work in 4WD and every so often shift into 2WD to keep the shift linkage limber. My 6520 turns when and where I want it to, yet I have not pulled anything other than my backhoe and mower. You will be surprised what those large front tires can pull you out of.

Those heavey front shoulders are what appeal to me, they look as though they would seriosly contribute to forward traction as long as they don't negatively impact agility too much which as you say with the strong hydraulics should get me around ok.
I am going to farmfest in early May (a large local farming field day) all cashed up & will try to talk turkey with the local dealers. With the Aust $ pretty strong at the moment they should have room to deal.

Ken I just looked at the 4530 which is what I have compared to the 7030. The 7030 is a tad longer and a tad wider. Looks like the turning radius is a little bigger to. If it handles anything the 4530 I think you will be happy.

The hydraulic steering works good so you shouldn't have issues with it.

My only compaint would probablly be the weight to engine power. The 4530 is a bit heavy for the hp it is putting out. This is not a complaint for field use. I have no problems pulling my mower or baler with a full wagon behind it. My dislike is for road travel. Both of my fields are about 8 miles from my place. The are a few hills between the two. I think knowing what I know now I would have gone with a higher hp or the 20 series with the 4 extra gears.
I don't think this will be an issue with the 7030, which is about 630 lbs heavier than the 4530. Like I said my main issue is with road travel, if you don't do alot of it I wouldn't worry.
