Mahindra 6000 - 03' - Starter Question

Hello All,

I recently purchased a Mahindra 6000 and love the tractor, but am having starter issues. When I got it, it was having a few issues starting. I bought a new battery, and it would periodically click at starter after the new battery. I ordered a new solenoid and it would start sometimes and click at the starter other times. It has been getting worse and today it would not turn the starter by jumping across the solenoid. I'm guessing that I need a new starter?

Is there a trick to getting these off? I tried taking it off today and was not successful. Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated!

before you buy anything else, check the battery cables at both ends. take them off, clean them up and put them back on. sounds like a cable problem to me.

I've got an '02 6000, I had the same issue after about 5 years...I took the solinoid off of the starter, took it apart and found that there is a steel rod that actuates the starter from the solinoid...I cleaned the rod good and added a small amount of syn. clear grease (this stuff came in a tube, and is not very thick). Wiped everything down and put it back together...not problem with click since (I think this rod sticks and won't connect to the starter motor). Its not hard to take the solinoid off the starter...give it a try and get back to us. BobG in VA
