I have searched the internet for hours looking for a book, dvd, program etc..for a quick tutorial re using a backhoe. All I found was tech schools and ojt. type sources. Anybody have a source for my quest? I know that experience and hands on will eventually prevail, but looking to get the basics and the major mistakes to avoid so as not to hurt man or machine.

I have tractor experience, 8 yrs of using MF 165 to mainatin 9 acers. Stepping up to a new machine and implement I have not used before. The dealer will deliver and show lever functions and then I'm on my own. Read several threads here and on others, but nothing that addresses what I'd like to know.
Thanks for any info you can provide

I'll bet the hoe will come with an operating manual. It'll cover the basics. If you've already made the deal, ask to get the manual before he delivers, that way you can read through it. I think hands on experience is going to tell you a lot. Keep the rpm's low 1000-1200 at first, until you get the hang of how quick it responds. It'll have a relief valve like the loader does, it'll open if you ask too much of it. Don't expect it to do the work of an industrial machine, though I bet you'll be impressed with what it will do.

Magyarbacsi,
The 509/511 Operator's manual will give you basic techniques to start digging. Mine was shipped attached to the BH. But like Shvl73 stated, hands on is best. The 509/511 has a swing speed knob. I adjust mine a lot depending on what rpm I have selected. The first time you demount the BH from your tractor, take it real slow. My first time turned into a bucking bronco ride before I knew it.
hugs, Brandi
