I have a mahindra tractor 4500 front wheel drive, had it for 4 years now. Why do my tractor keey cutting off, it apear that this is a known problem with mahindra tractors? Do these tractors known for getting a fongus in their tanks. I have replaced both large fuel filters, and the small 2 to 4 inch small filters, and again it has started to cut off again. I take off the what ever you call the (cup with small 3- 4 inch filter, with the bottom lock wheel nut), pump and prime the fuel several times, and it start back up, run about 20 minites and cut off again. The primer cup with the filter is full, it apear the fuel having problem getting past that point. What else can I check??????????

Check the fuel flow from the tank to the filter. Remove the filter closest to the rear of the tractor. With the filter off open the fuel line. You should have a good strong flow of fuel. If you don't the screen inside the fuel tank is plugged up.

I think it is fair to say that all tractors would act similarly if the fuel is contaminated with water and fungus. If you don't use fresh fuel, then you should put some additive in the fuel to help keep it from spoiling. No tractor will run well with this, and you have a good chance of clogging up your fuel system.

Thanks for the reply: How and where do you open the fuel line, where on the line connected to the botton of the tank with the flat t shape to the fuel filter? How can I check or see the screen inside the tank? How to unplug it? How to remove water or fungus from my tank? Which is a good desel additive to add in desel fuel to clear this problem?

After my tractor cutts off, I loosen the manual Primer pump, take off the cup with 3 inch filter inside, and this cut is full of fuel, and the filter appear not to be stopped up, a little air releases after taken off the filter cup, I manually reprime the fuel, and i can hear the primer pump pumping air back up in the bottom of the fuel tank. Start up the tractor, and it restarts, and run again for 20 t0 30 min.'s and cut off again.

DJP....it sounds like your problem is the fuel cap on the fuel tank...if you hear air/bubbles in your tank after you release the filter/et al you have a vacumn in your tank which basically gets to the point after 20 minutes of running to suck the fuel back into the tank...try this...start the tractor let it run for 15 minutes...shut it off, take the fuel cap off...does the tank sound like its "sucking air" when you unscrew it??/ If it does your cap is clogged...ie. is not vented...you need a vented cap. Also after you do this restart the tractor without the cap on, run it up to 1500 rpm or so...let it set and run for 30 minutes...I bet it doesn't shut off....good luck. BobG in VA PS: Brenda from Mahindra is very helpful...she will get you straight...

Thanks Bob!! I appreciate the vote of confidence!! :)
DJP, I also have responded to your email that you sent through the website I didn't realize it was you until I saw your reply.
If Bob's suggestion doesn't work try pulling the shut off valve under the tank and check for contamination in the shut off valve. Clean the valve and you should be good to go. If you would like I can have someone give you a call. Please call me and let me know!! Happy Wednesday!!

Thanks for the REPLY: My MAHINDRA 4500 2wd has been running the past two weeks, run for 20\30 min and shuts down. I seem this issue in the past, and yes it has been the filter in the bottom of the fuel tank. I can get off the tractor and pump the primer on the fuel pump ASSEMBLY and I can run for another 20\30 min. or replace the filter and I am good. This has started again, so I removed the filter out of the bottom of the tank all together. Something again is shutting down my tractor. Took off the tractor tank, cleaned the tank, replaced the fuel, replace/clean the filter in the fuel pump assembly, replaced both filters at lower part of the tractor. Push up/down the fuel pump assembly primer button. The tractor starts up, runs 20/30 min and again shuts down. Now I have removed the whole fuel pump assembly looking for something stopped up. The primer button is very hard to pull up and sometimes will not pull up. Now that I cannot push/prime the button the tractor will not start. I need a second one's advice, do I need to replace the fuel pump assembly primer or the whole fuel pump assembly. How to test the fuel pump assembly to see if any part of it is not clear??? I am running out of ideals. My last test will be the fuel/DISEL pump itself.

Here's a long shot, but have you replaced the fuel lines yet? I would be amazed if it still has the original braided steel covered lines. Those were problematic even when that tractor was new, so they should have been discarded years ago.
