2006 Mahindra 3525 w/ FEL
I have a Mahindra 3525 i just procured. Looking to change the fluids. Book lists the following fluids and i have confirmed with Mahindra that if the book lists two different fluids that id be better off using two different fluids and i should stay away from UTF.

So for the transmission it lists API GL4 EP 90 (do not use GL5 because of brass or copper alloys used in tranny). Searching and searching for reasonable priced fluid and meets the specs was nearly impossible. First, most 80W90 gear oils state they meet GL5 which is where i have difficulty. Reading up on GL5 and GL4 from a guy who did a lot of research and then explained the difference in GL 4 and GL5 in a way most can follow. Now, any way i did locate a gear oil. However, it is a marine gear oil at Walmart "Quicksilver Premium Gear Lube 80W90" and it states that it meets GL4 specs.

I assume there is no difference in this gear oil and another brand not marketed as "Marine". I assume it is just marketed as "Marine" for the sake of marketing and there would be no difference in performance.

Are my assumptions valid? or should i be looking for one that states for heavy equipment, trucks, blah blah.

Check out this link... AMSOIL SEVERE GEAR(R) 75W-9
Recommended for use in differentials, manual transmissions and other gear applications requiring any of the following specifications: API GL-5, MT-1, MIL-PRF-2105E, Dana SHAES 234 (Formerly Eaton PS-037), Mack GO-J, or other GL-5 based specifications from vehicle manufacturers, including Ford*, GM* and Chrysler*. Can also be used in axles where an API GL-4 lubricant is recommended.
Even though it is GL-5 rated it is still safe for use in GL-4. I've used this in several of my vehicles, one that also calls for a GL-4, and no issues what-so-ever. Dutchy

the words "marine grade" instantly double the price of anything.

Is this going in a transmission or a differential?
Do you have a separate reservoir for hydraulics?

This is oil is for the transmission. I understand the oil manufacturer may state a GL 5 is acceptable, however supposedly GL5 oils are harsh on brass and copper alloys. With that said, i want to stick with the manufacturer's suggested oil and stay away from the one they specifically state NOT to use (GL5).

Yes hydraulic is a separate reservoir and different fluid.

The "Marine" oil is actually priced competitively

I understand the concern, but when a manufacturer says that it is safe for GL4 application, that means that they've considered the ingredients to accommodate the specifications to meet that standard. Here is a link to send a request to AMSOIL techs if you want info. Never hurts to double-check with a company to protect your assets...;>)
