I'm looking at a new tractor. Talked to the dealer today and they have a Mahindra 3316 for the same price as a 3016. I know the 3316 is discontinued but wonder what the other differences are and why buy one over the other.

Thanks;
Steve

:welcome: to TBN! The only difference I can imagine is the 3316 will have 3 more hp. If they are the same price I would just get the 3316 since I can imagine that the parts between the 3016 and 3316 would be for the most part interchangeable since they are the same tractor with different engine hp ratings. I can see why they would discontinue it since you can get a 3016 or a 3616 for just a few thousand more. No use having one in the middle as the difference will be slim between the three.

The 3316 and 3616 tractors have a different front axil than the 3016 which gives them a shorter turning radius. I believe the 3316/3616 have the shortest turning radius in its size range, other than the New Hollands with super steer.

The 3316 has a plastic hood, the 3016 has steel. The 3016 is 28HP, the 3316 has 33. The 3016 lifts 1650 lbs in the bucket, the 33 about 1400. Different front axles. The 30 has an all cast iron trans/rear diff, the 33 has a section that is aluminum. The tractors have similarities, but are actually quite different.

I'd lean towards the 3016 if you don't need the extra PTO HP. The 33 has a turbo, so at altitude it retains more HP, where a naturally aspirated engine loses some HP at altitude.

If you are in Redding, you might as well come take a look if you haven't already, we are 30 miles away.

Unless you really need that extra HP or are up in the mountains, I would go for the 3016, much better tractor overall. This from a guy that has a 3215, the same tractor as the 3316. Actually I would probably go for the 3616, then you get the extra HP and don't have to worry about it. ;)
