I searched and found references to a Wix air filter for the 2816 (Mine is Gear) and seems everything I found had the wrong cross reference part number for the wix. I can confirm that part # 46483 is correct. Got mine at O'Reilly's. Here are the pics to prove it. Installed and working :) ...and btw, cost was $31 , less than half price of other sources. Ordered 2 more from Amazon for $23 http://www.amazon.com/Wix-46483-Air-Filter-Pack/dp/B000CSIP9I

I found the same WIX filter for $20.27 at this supplier that I use. Froedge Machine & Supply Company, Inc..
I have ordered from them before and found that if I ordered filters for all of the things needing filters i.e.; lawn mower, generator, plate compactor, tractor with backhoe and my various other vehicles even buying the case quantity in some instances it is really cheap to have the extra filters around when I need them and I don't have to chase them down.
If you order enough you get free shipping there is no more running to the auto parts store and with the price of fuel I can afford to buy a few extra filters and have them sit on the shelf and it encourages me to replace them more often.

It looks like the OEM filter has more filter media, like the pleats are tighter. It would be interesting to cut apart a wix and an OEM filter and stretch out the media and see if there is a difference, and how much. In dusty conditions, the bigger the filter the better. The second question would be if the media quality is the same. I know Wix makes good stuff, so probably so.

I know the OEM oil filter has quite a bit more filter area then a Wix, because we had one torn apart. We never tried the experiment on an air filter.

Let's say the OEM filter has 10 or 20% more filter area, and of course that is questionable at this point, but that would make the OEM filter a little more valuable in my book. It would still be hard to explain why the OEM filter is twice as much $$, but I suppose that is the norm that an aftermarket company is going to sell cheaper then OEM, or why bother buying non-oem.

It does look like the correct size.

I've kept the old one and when I replace the WIX I'll cut them both open and report back. It did fit fine when installing.

Good. I think if we can demonstrate to Mahindra/Mitsubishi that there is a truly equivalent filter for a third the price, we can ask for a price reduction. We have been successful a couple of times over the years. I bet we end up finding the OEM to have more filter area. Not three times more, but more.
