Mahindra 2815
Ok, my dad called me today and asked if I could find out anything about adding a turbocharger to a Mahindra 2815. I've looked at this site before when we were having issues with his old Cub and found out what we needed to know, but unfortunately this time this doesnt seem to be a very popular question.

He has been told that the only difference between the 2815 and the 3015 is simply the turbo. He wants to know if he can buy a kit or a turbo and all the parts from a dealership and add it on or if the tractor was built in such a way that adding a turbo would be impossible.

Any and all assistance in this question would be greatly appreciated and I thank all of you in advance!!!

I would check with the dealer first. Any thing is possible but not always cost effective. Also how will it effect the warranty? Many people have added turbos from other thing to a tractor but I only wonder how much time, cost, and problems it caused down the road.

Hey Chris,
Thanks for your reply! I was kinda thinking the same thing. I will try to get in contact with a dealer tomorrow as they are closed today. I figured they would know the most about it although I know it never hurts to ask around! Have a great day!:)

Because turbocharging increases the power output substantially, much more heat and stress are produced in the engine. Often, even with engines of the same displacement and design, certain components are upgraded in the turbocharged version. For example, the pistons may be heavier or even have steel inserts in the face. Oil jets are often placed in the block to spray lubricating oil on the pistons' undersides for cooling. The compression ratio may be lowered to take into account the increased density of the pressurized air. The injection pump will surely have to be recalibrated and different injectors may be required.

In cars where the spurts of full power are intermittent those enhancements may be ignored without greatly shortening the life of the engine, but in an industrial engine that may operate at full power for long periods it usually results in burned/holed pistons, among other ills.

Ask the dealer to check the part numbers of these and other components in the two versions of engine.

Finally, I suspect Chris is right: even if the only new parts are the turbo, intake manifold, exhaust manifold, and numerous small pieces of hardware (air intake lines, muffler?, etc.) and recalibration of the injection pump, the cost will probably be several thousand Dollars.

Let us know what you find out.

Farmerford, I agree. I think he was thinking along the same lines as well. I called him a little bit ago and he told me when he spoke to the Mahindra dealer they told him they did not know a definite answer and would have to return his call. He also asked that if he couldnt just simply upgrade he wanted to trade in on a tractor that did have a turbocharger and would like to know a trade in value of the one he currently owned, and let him know when they called him back.

That was two months ago.

He told me he has repeatedly tried to get back in contact with them but the dealership he bought it from would not answer their phones nor call him back. I think it's safe to say that they have no interest in assisting him any further and he needs to start looking at other brands. SO, I suppose I'll be researching so I can provide an input as to what equipment brands he should be looking into and try to get him in contact with some dealers (I know, HE should probably be the one doing the research, but he's not very good with computers yet and I figure if I can provide some input it'll make life easier:))

I really appreciate you guys for all your help and I know I'll find lots of useful information on here. This forum rocks.

About 4 hp. It really struggles up hills with the mower deck engaged.

Hate to say this, but I think that he will be best off to sell the 2815 and get himself a 3215. By the time he buys ALL the right stuff from Mahindra, it will simply be to much money. :(

Just my opinion, trying to save him some $$$$ and heartache. ;)
