Mahindra 2555 HST CAB
OK, so I've been to 4 dealers now, 2 in each camp.

I'm looking at the Mahindra 2555 HST CAB and the Kioti NX4510 HST CAB. Yes, I know there's 5HP difference, but neither Kioti dealer in my areas has the NX5010, so there's nothing I can do about it. Plus, it's $2-3k less, so that's a bonus, right!?!?

I have to be honest, I'm stuck, and can't decide.

The Mahindra SEEMS a bit bigger inside the cab. Plus it's 5HP higher, but only 4HP more at the PTO. But it's $3k more.

The Kioti seems a bit smaller, but is workable and is $3k less, which definitely helps the budget (re: the wife)

Both dealers are within reasonable distance (30 minutes), but the Kioti is much closer. The Mahindra dealer has been in business for 12 years, while the Kioti only 2 1/2.

Anything you guys are aware of on either side that I'm missing that might help pull me in one direction or the other? Right now, my GUT is telling me RED because of the extra HP (or that might be my testosterone kicking in). We're going to have 32 acres, 17 of which we'll be haying, the other 13 we'll be using for barn/grazing and the remaining acre or so is the house, etc. It's all relatively flat, no trees (used to be all pasture/hay fields), etc.

Thoughts? HELP!

When you say "we'll be haying", do you mean you'll use the tractor for cutting and baling hay? If so, I don't think either one of those is enough tractor unless you've got some small farm hay equipment.

And keep in mind that hay equipment is REALLY expensive - too expensive to make it worthwhile to purchase for many of us that only own small farms about your size.

I was torn between Mahindra and Kioti and I opted for the Mahindra. This was last year before the TIER 4 mandates.

In your case I'd still go red as you're dealing with TIER 4 final engines. The Mahindra is the only tractor out there that has no regen requirements and requires no extra fluids or filters due to TIER 4 requirements.

If you're will to put up with the TIER 4 regen to save a couple thousand, initially, then see which one has the better cup holder location or most comfortable seat/when position, as that's about the only reason to buy one over the other.

They're both great machines.

At this point I think I've settled on the Mahindra. Couldn't find a Kioti that was an NX5010, just the NX4510. While $3k less, it was definitely smaller inside (dimensionally) and the loss of 15 HP (10 @ the PTO) concerned me. Plus with Mahindra offering 0% financing, it was "only" $30-$45 per month more. I'll take another day or so to think about it though....

When you get it, share a bunch of photos of the interior or make a video of the interior.

I believe AGCO aka Massey Ferguson has some of their 60+ hp tractors have no DPF and Kubota is right behind them

Not everyone wants to make huge square bails or 5x6 round bails. There are plenty of small square Bailee's for that hp range. Does not sound that he is doing 25,000 bails a year. Yes the larger the tractor the better. If the land is relatively flat he should have no problems.

I hear you, but I've been looking at making small rectangle bales and have been told that a 55HP tractor is sufficient. My friends brother and father are doing it now and their tractor is 50HP and they got 1200 bales off the area where we'll be haying our self in a couple of years. Am I missing something?

I will...nervous about pulling the trigger to be honest!

From everything I'm seeing, Mahindra is the company on the rise with a quality product. Kioti is just kind of out there, but not really a major player. If the cost is similar, Mahindra would be my top choice.

I'm also casually looking at different brands for a cab tractor and Mahindra is at the top of my list over all the other brands except LS. I'm not sure which is the better deal, but it might come down to paint color. I just hate that shade of blue on the LS tractors, but everything I've read about them sure sounds like a heck of a tractor for a fair price.

Eddie,

The Kioti dealer in CNY I spoke with has BOTH Kioti and LS and he favors the Kioti. They appear similarly matched to be honest, which put them 6" narrower than the Mahindra. Another reason...my big *** needed the extra width of the Mahindra!
