Really... can't we compare a Chevy truck with a Ford car if we want?

Sure, and I think that while it was stated that the comparisons are apple-to-orange comparisions, people actually did provide comparisions anyway. It was stated that the Massey & Kubota were smaller, lighter and had lower ground clearance. Later a HP comparision was made.
I think the reason that the "apples-to-oranges" statement gets thrown out is due to the fact that some folks probably don't know that they are totally different types of machines. You and I could compare your big Mahindra to my little Ventrac. Both are 4wd. Both power implements. Both have seats & steering wheels. Both will mow a lawn. Both will lift up dirt in their buckets and carry it somewhere else. So for someone who doesn't know that they are different, then they might just assume they are similar.
But my Ventrac has the engine in the rear, your Mahindra's is up front. My Ventrac has an articulated body that bends in the middle and even oscillates up and down at the same time it twists side to side, if your Mahindra did that then it would certainly shatter the bell housing and probably the engine block and bend drive shafts too.
So while my example here is EXTREME in the apples-to-oranges comparisons, it illustrates a point. IF someone does not know they are different, then we really should tell them.
