Does anyone know what the differences is when it comes to the M7040HD vs. M7040HD-1?

Why are there a few of the M7040HD on the lots and all of the M7040HD-1 are sold OUT?

None of the dealers that I've talked to know when they will be getting the M7040HD-1's back in.

I would say this is the reason for the 0% financing... to get rid if the OLD stock thats been sitting on the lots for a couple years.

I tried to order the M7040HD-1 today but no go... there are a few 08 M7040HD out there on the cheap. Should I get one of these at the bargain prices as they are NEW just 08 builds?

Thanks...

PS Yes I sold the Ford 3000, Got $5000 YEAH!

My understanding of the primary difference with the -1 designation was that it was the turbo model. Other than that same unit. I have seen comments that the turbo model runs a little smoother and that it helps with the emissions but no real power increase. The M7040 we have was pre-turbo and runs just fine. Got it just before the -1 model came out. I would not hesitate to get another one without a turbo if it was available.

red4now is right on the money. The turbo just allows the Tier IV emission requirements to be met. Or it is Tier (something or other).

There is a post or two about it somewhere.

well that makes a lot of sense. Adding some emissions control stuff so we can unhook it all later on lol... I'm sure there are a few other things on that (-1) fix list. Does anyone happen to have a copy of the old spec-sheet that was posted with the HD version? I would like to compare it to what is listed on Kubota.com for the HD-1. Its probable the same other than the Turbo.

I had a contract drawn up with one dealer until he printed me out a copy of the deal and listed the serial numbers... I was able to look up the engine SN and tell that it was an Oct 2008 build. The tractor was a rental with 47 hours. He said Christmas tree farmers rented it. Wheels were faded but it seem to run fine. Bit I wanted a new tractor not a two year old tractor. I am UN-able to look up the serial number and get the manufacture date... THis seems to be Top-Secret with Kubota.

The tractor year of manufacture doesn't matter a bit. If you got a good deal at those low hours it is worth going for it.

Attached is the specs for the 2008 M7040 from the Kubota website. The difference between it and the (-1) model is that the (-1) has 71/64 HP for the engine/PTO. The naturally aspirated has 70/62 HP.

The HP wouldn't make a real world difference. In addition, the possibility of repairs on the turbo and plumbing do not have to be dealt with.

I have a '08 M7040, I'd rather have it than a turbo simply
because I don't have to wait for it to "cool down" before
I turn it off for the day. Also just a few less things to break.

gwdixon, Sure the year of the tractor makes a difference! I have a 69 motor I will give you to put into your tractor if it don't think it matters lol... Anyways thanks for your input I just don't agree.

I got back a hold of my salesman. He pulled the invoice on the rented tractor that has 47 hours on it. He said they got it Dec 27th 2009. He assures me that it's a M7040HD-1 with Turbo. He has all my extras on it and its gassed up and will be delivered at 10:am in the morning.

The cost was $31,925.00 Which included the following...
M7040HD-1 (Looks New, Runs New)
Hydraulic Shuttle
4WD
Loader w/Quick Attach Bucket (New)
Canopy (New)
Work Light on back (New)
Steal Rear Wheel Wheels (paint slightly faded)
Loaded back tires
Two Chain Hooks Welded onto Loaded Bucket
Heavy Duty Tooth Bar (New & Mounted)
Gas Tank full of diesel
Ag Tires
Delivered 168 miles (no charge)

I also got a 6' bush cutter (brand: Taylorway) $1000.00 Extra

Plus Taxes in NC 8

Thoughts?

@ 47 hrs, just do the 50 hr service right, esp considering it was rental....you'll be good to go, the M series are awesome and would take any day over grand L, just my own application & prejudice....bb

Glad to see that you have "diesel" in the "gas" tank.. lol :)

Sounds like you are ready to go. The 47 hours is nothing on those units. Our late 08 M7040 has close to 700 hours on it and lets just say the primary driver of that unit is not the most gentle operator (why we got a Kubota for him) and it is holding up just fine. As was suggested, be good to let the tractor idle for a bit after heavy running so that the turbo has a chance to cool down somewhat. Apparently a good practice in general for diesel engines I have heard from different sources. We practice that on our M8540 which all came with turbo's I believe, as well as an older unit (non-Kubota) we just sold off a while back - 5000+ hours and never had a turbo problem. Becomes a habit after a while and so I even do it on the B3030 after a few hours of heavy mowing or whatever.

So now the only question is, where are the pictures?? :)
