I bought a M 6040 HD and when I shift to reverse in any high range gear the tractor doesn't move for many seconds, especially if it is on an incline. Also when hitching my 3 bottom plows or the disk, the 3 point hitch doesn't lift high enough and the equipment often drags the ground even when adjusting according to the manual. Any suggestions?

I'll ask the question first, does it have enough oil?

Hopefully, it is just low on hydraulic oil. Park it on level ground, leave it sit for half hour and check hydro oil.

The oil level is correct. I even did the 50 hour oil changes for the entire tractor.

Since it's not as simple as adding fluid, it's time to call/talk with the dealer. I suspect it is still under warranty. By the way, did you replace the hydro oil with UDT or Super UDT? These tractors should have Super UDT especially for cold weather operation (see manual) or the hydraulics will be sluggish.

Several hrs on my new 7040 hyd the same thing happened. The dealer made a linkage adjustment on the hyd. shift lever. Many new ones are notorious for this. I'd have it checked out before too much longer, bet it's the problem bb

Thanks for the reply. I like the suggestion from Big Bubba about adjusting the hydrolic shift lever. Any thoughts on the 3 point hitch? Are other M series owners satisfied with the height capacity for their implements?

just a dumb question from me, I'm famious for that....are you sure you're raising the rear hyd. control lever over and past the stop so that it's all the way up, not riding on the adjustable stop? Also, there is adjustable linkage on the rear to adj the overall height of the 3 pt. Run this by your dealer also bb

The hitch has a maximum travel and should be able to get any normal implement well clear of the ground if the top link is adjusted right and is working right.

The ball ends normally can lift to about 2.5 ft high or so.

I have the 3-point problem with my M7040 with my Lienbach PHD. I could get the auger a good foot of the ground on my old tractor, but the 7040 with the hitch totally raised the auger still drags the ground.

That's odd. With our Lienbach PHD we have plenty of clearance with it on the 7040....wander what the diff. is?

Maybe you should try putting the bolt that holds the A-frame to the boom in a different hole.
