my M59 (292 hours) stopped having any power to swing the backhoe side to side.
I replaced hydraulic filters and the fluid. No change in operation.
Has anyone else experienced this problem?
Where should I start with trouble shooting?
I'm 75 miles to the dealer so this is a PITA!

Mind did something similar once for no reason. It would swing in one direction but not the other.
First thing to check is lift the rear apron over the 3pt/PTO area and check that those 2 hand push levers on either side of the hyd. filling cap are all the way in. - page 61 in my operator's manual.

On that page at the rt. bottom there is also mention of a "swing lever"....but I don't know what lever that refers too. From the text, It almost sounds like there is yet another hand lever to be moved but I don't see one. If you find out anything about it let us know. I don't have any aux. hydraulics back there on mine.

On mine, the levers were correct and moving them didn't change anything. What I did next was kind of odd. I would lower one of the stabilizer legs until the backhoe slowly swung to the other side and then lower that leg and raise the other one and repeat - all the time wiggling the swing control as gravity slowly swung the backhoe side to side. I did that 3 or 4 times when all of a sudden the swing control started working normally. Years later it still is. I still don't know what the problem was. Maybe a bubble; maybe a piece of crud in the system?
luck,

After cycling the controls under the cover by the PTO about half a dozen times the backhoe started working with some power again.
Thank you for your suggestion

Some power, or full power?

I have a similar problem with the swing working to swing right but will not swing left, need to possibly change swing adjustments on the wobble sticks

Maybe swing adjustments, but try a couple of simple things:

First thing is to check the L-shaped hand push/pull levers under the rear 3pt apron. When I checked mine they were right, but apparently it did help Bryan's M59. It seems as though those levers can vibrate to the wrong position. I pushed the levers back and forth a couple of times just to make sure,

On mine, since those L-shaped levers were correct and moving them didn't change anything what I did next was kind of odd...... I would swing the backhoe all the way to the side that worked, and then lower the stabilizer leg on that side to lift that side of the tractor. THen with one side of the tractor lifted high, I worked the swing lever while letting gravity slowly swung the backhoe in the non-powered direction. I think I may have had to extend the boom to stick the bucket way out to get gravity to do that.
All the while that gravity was slowly moving the hoe I was wiggling the swing control lever and hoping.... When it got all the way as far as gravity would swing it I would reverse the procedure.....raise the stabilizer that was down and then raise the other side and repeat - all the time it was slowly swinging I would wiggling the swing control. I did that 3 or 4 times back and forth and all of a sudden the swing control started working normally. Years later it still is. I still don't know what the problem was. Maybe a bubble; maybe a piece of crud in the system?

I just got my backhoe fixed on the problem of no swing to the left
It was the swing selonoid first they thought that the swing cylinder had blown out a O ring but it was the selonoid

There have been a fair number of M59 owners who have reported this problen of no swing on one side. It's still a mystery as to what causes the problem. Mine has done it twice in 12 years now. Others have reported the same thing.

I believe that all the M59s who reported the problem here on TBN have so far spontaeously recovered normal swing operation after a while. The time to recovery ranges from from several minutes to several days, and about the only thing the reports have in common is that leaning the machine from side to side while working the lever while swinging the boom by hand or by gravity may have beeb what causes it to suddenly start working again. But of course that may be just coincidental. I don't think anyone really knows.

So far nobody has reported any direct link between the "one-sided only swing problem" and any mechanical component - although some of the diagnostic guesses by dealer mechanics have been pretty radical. Someday someone will figure out what's really causing it.

To me the problem sounds like a gas bubble, or some sort of vapor lock in the hydraulic valve. That's the kind of thing that spontaneously gets better over time.... I readily admit that is purely a guess as well. If mine ever does it and doesn't recover on its own I plan to start by renting a hydraulic flow stand to check out the backhoe hydraulic specs in the shop manual.

Fingers crossed....,

Could you tell me where that swing solenoid is located? Have not found it in book. M59 won稚 swing left and tried gravity, did not work. Thanks
