this is the first time i have tried to brush hog with my M4900, and surely i am doing something wrong or there is a valve i need to shut or something?? in light to medium stuff, the pto slows way way down and will even stop, but the motor never notices????

Hmmmmm. Interesting problem. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Forgive me for asking, /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif but I assume you have the PTO lever in the full forward detent position? If so, then it's got to be an out of adjustment PTO clutch pack or lever linkage.

My M4900 had the opposite problem. It would snap the shear pin every time I engaged the Brush Hog! I finally figured out to lower the RPMs to minimum and gently engage the PTO lever. Then I could tach up and run normally.

As for PTO power, I cut some brush up to 2" saplings this weekend and the motor didn't even grunt.

Let us know what you find out. Other than this issue, how do you like the M4900?

lever is all the way forward, so i "assume" its fully engaged. i will have had the tractor for 3 years this coming june or july, and its performed flawlessly...other than this?? 4wd with a FEL and it does everything i can think of to do. i was trying to clip the grass and cut some young cedar sprouts in the pasture, the cedar might be 2-3 ft tall, and the pto shaft would slow down to almost nothing..and the motor never seemed to notice. of course that may be the way a hyd clutch works?? this is a first for me.

It shouldn't slip, it isn't big and the heat can damage it quickly.

It must need an adjustment.

well, theres a story there...neck surgery...tractors are really rough on the neck..thats why i didn't know the pto was stopping, i couldn't look back when i was brush hogging, while the tractor was under warranty...i "thought" my old slip clutch was causing the problem..this year, i tightened the slip clutch with a welder...when the same problem occurred, i looked back and saw the pto stopping...no telling what this is gonna cost me..but it has to be fixed..

the lever that engages the pto wasn't engaging it completely, so they didn't have to split the tractor..thankfully..but while they have it in their shop, i am going to go ahead an let them do the 50 hour service..except for the engine oil change, which i have already done a couple times..
