"M" Series creeper option

The operator's manual does not really state that creep does not have high torque capability but it does state that it is to be limited to use such as deep root-tilling where you need an extremely low speed, planting, and sod work. It is not to be used with a loader or any high load earthmoving work, nor is it to be used when pulling a trailer. In the info on one M version it said creep is intended mainly got very low speed vegetable and fruit harvesting and the like, when the tractor is used for a very low speed operation while PTO speed must remain high. That fits in with deep toto tilling like stated in my manual.

Think of the engine as capable of a certain torque at a high speed. Every time a gear set is added to lower the output speed the parts of the power train downstream from that gear set can be subjected to higher torque. Gears in the highest gear have relatively narrow width because maximum torque is lower. As you step down to higher numerical ratio but lower speed, the gear s get wider to be capable of handling the load. Now add a creeper gear so with the highest speed possible in the top gear creep allows the torque possibility at the wheels is extremely high. The creeper set, however, is not at the final drive. It is upstream so there is a capability to tear the power train apart - except normally the tires will have a traction limit well below the point at which the power train will self destruct.

I asked about having it installed on my new M6040. The dealer said it was only for use as indicated by MHarryE - post #21 - IE, no heavy pulling, pushing, no heavy anything. And that is what my OP manual says also. Well, I was hoping for some slow speed heavy duty pulling etc. So that sure quashed the idea and I never had it installed. Dealer said in all the years it had been available - he's never ordered a unit with the creeper set.
