- Yanmar LX410...IHI 35J excavator Woodmizer LT40
Fan belt broke the other day. Something the dealer didn't stock....3 days to get one. In the mean time, I went to local auto parts store with the old one and they cross referenced it with two other brands. Bought one there. Seems sorta early for a belt to break....my last tractor had 2500hrs and 13yrs on the original belt.
Had enough hydraulic hoses fail over the last couple years on the front end loader that the last time I was at the hose shop, I had them make me up a complete set so I won't have to stop and go to town, I can just run to the shop, grab a hose and replace. Problem with losing a hose is the loader DIES in whatever position you are in, and you may, or may not, be able to drive it back to the shop to change a hose. Sorta unhandy.
Also replaced a curl cylinder for the second time about 6 months ago. First time, it blew the whole rod end out the tube, damaging the threads on the tube so I could reuse it....they replaced that one under warranty, but ever since I put that one on, the curl would leak down....you could almost watch it "un-curl". SO, I checked on a packing kit, and for not much more, you can buy the whole cylinder (about $175)(Kit was $120 !! ).....so I bought a cylinder, and this time, it doesn't leak down. Apparently, the FEL hydraulics is made by the minimum bid subcontractor.....
Then my fuel stoppage issue started back....like something was in the tank again (see previous post on this issue) intermittently blocking fuel. Tractor would simply stop at random times. Wait 30 seconds, crank a couple times and it would run until the next time.
Changed fuel filters (both the main one on the engine, and the bowl one under the right fender)....no effect.
Pulled the line off the tank, put another line on it leading to a fuel can and watched it drain the whole tank with no slow down in feed.
Then I started listening to the little booster pump...the one mounted under the right fender on top the first fuel filter bowl. Before, when key is on, you'd hear a steady 'tick-tick-tick'. Now it was steady, then a 'whrrr' sound....then back to tick-tick-tick. Made me suspect that pump was bad, so I ordered one ($124 for a crappy little fuel pump), replaced it, and that seems to have solved the fuel stoppage issue....knock on wood......
Life of a Yanmar owner I guess. Maybe my memory has faded, but the 220D I bought back in 1984 didn't seem to have nearly this many issues.
