New here so thanks in advance trying to understand my post. the mower has set up for about a year. put gas in it to load on trailer. Got it home. Replaced the fuel filter, oil and filter. It cranks and runs fine at idle. Give it the gas and it falls on its face. Let it idle for a little longer and it revs up fine then it starts to sputter and wants to die. I can back of the gas back to idle and it does fine. Did this for about 10 mins after adding some seafoam thinking it would clear up. ]I notice the fuel filter is not filling up]. I put another fuel pump and the same thing. Any ideas. The fuel filter not filling up leads me to thing the problem is between the tank and filter. i tried loosing the gas cap as well with no change. Any suggestions?

Sounds like carburetor trouble to me. Take it off and clean all the parts.

Like BBO said, it sounds like carburetor trouble.

My LX178 had the same symptoms but the final cure was to clean the carburetor. It turned out to be plugged right at the carburetor inlet, just before the float bowl.

My fuel filter never fills up all the way. Good luck.

I had several issues with one of my carbs getting trash inside. At times it flooded, then others it was not getting fuel.
The needle valve that the float works can get trash in underneath and it will flood because the valve cannot shut it off.
Then if the trash gets into a jet, it will starve the engine.
I would find specs of gas line in the carb. I replaced the fuel line back to the filter and it seemed to stop the problems.
Later I replaced the line all the way back to the tank.
I think fuel with ethanol was partially to blame, plus the age of the rubber.
I have to drive several miles, plus pay more for ethanol free fuel, but that's all I use now.

I was able to clean the carb yesterday and found trash in the bowl. I stutters a little when i go to give it full throttle now but revs on up. I have the fuel tank off awaiting the bushing i ordered that holds the fuel line fitting so i was not able to drive it and activate the PTO to see if it is a sure fix. Thanks for the advise i will keep you updated.

If it has been sitting for about a year with no use should i change the rear fluid?

The transaxle fluid? No, not unless it's somehow contaminated. Did you find any drain plug?

I was able to cut the grass yesterday with no issues, thanks again. BBO when you ask if it is the transaxle fluid i am thinking yes. It has a reservoir tank that is filled under the seat and a check cap on the top of rear end housing. I have not looked for a drain plug.
