lug nuts for hub centered wheels

I just replaced the 16" 8 lug wheels on my trailer with some 17.5" wheels so I could go with 16 ply tires for an added margin of safety. The 16" were stud centered with the cone shaped lug nuts. The 17.5" are hub centered. The fit the hubs tightly so all is good there but I need different lug nuts as the wheels are just flat where the lug nuts go and do not have the cone to match up with the cone lug nuts and the the place I bought the wheels and the tire shop are not finding anything. I am guessing I need a flange style nut like are on duallys but the the threads are different. The studs on the trailer are 1/2-20 and I have searched and I am not finding any specific flange lug nuts for these threads. I was thinking of going to the local bolt store and just buying 1/2" grade 8 flange nuts. Any reason this would not work or does anyone know where I could find flange lug nuts this size?

Mcmaster Carr has flange nuts in many styles usually ships same day.

You could use regular nuts with washers but the flanged nuts will look cleaner. Around here one of the local Kubota dealers is also a rental company. They have lots of nuts and bolts the local hardware stores don't carry. Things like flange nuts and the lock nuts that don't use nylon for example. You could also try a real truck shop. We have a couple that deal with trucks larger than 1 tons and they have everything you could ever want. I think I remember seeing flange nuts for sale that were being used on leaf spring hanger bolts.

I have also seen a round flat plate that goes over all the studs, bears against the wheel, and is machined to take cone nuts. Have you checked salvage yards for the nuts, or maybe the plates if your studs are long enough.

Are the bolt holes the same size on your new rims as the old? Even if it's hub centered it's probably not a good idea to use a rim with oversized bolt holes.
