Well yesterday I got to use my LT1050 for the first time! Let me tell you the last time I was on a tractor it was my father's when I was cutting his yard when I was younger and it was a 12hp Dynamark with 42" deck. This was around the 1994-1998 range. That tractor was $1200 new. In any event my how tractors have come along! This LT1050 does not bog down at all on anything during mulching and it does a fine job with excessively tall grass while doing it! I decided to make my neighbor an offer to cut his yard just a hair cheaper then the group doing it now and he excepted it. Hey, gotta pay for this thing somehow ha! Got through is overgrown .75 acre yard in an hour. That's with taking my time on the areas that were thicker. Got through mine in about the same time but factor in learning as part of the reason. My yard's a bit smaller.

In any event these new hydrostatic trannys are great! No more pain in the arse clutch engagement and gear selection. It's nice to be able to very the speed in which you mow so easily and also reverse directions so easily.

I engaged the PTO at about 1/2 to 3/4 speed and it seemed to work well. The tractor does give a good shake when doing so but guessing that's just the stress of the 50" deck loading down the tractor. No sqeaks or anything though during engagement.

Also, I always mow with the reverse feature turned off that prevents the mower deck from disengaging during backing up. I think that's a pretty silly feature as you should pay attention durinjg backing up whether the blades are on or not.

In any event just wanted to report my initial impressions of this mower. I'm very very happy so far!

Nick,
Congrats on your purchase! I also own a LT1050 and the machine has alot of balls. I now have 100 hrs. on mine and the only thing I had to do to mine was put a new PTO relay in it, because it kept failing $9.00. Not bad.
Good luck

cool deal! I found out my neighbors yard was actually about .85 acres so that makes me happier i'm able to cut it so quickly. He was so happy with the mulching that he wants me to do it when I cut mine every time or more or less once a week! I will shake his hand for paying for my mower!

BTW, is it normal for the tranny to wine a bit when you engage it when it's cold and with the motor at less then "rabbit" speed? I'm guessing that's a yes. It seems to go away as it warms up. doesn't bother me a bit, just wondering if its normal.

Had mine out for the first time last night. I changed the oil and lubed the blade zerts and wheels on Sunday. Must have made a fubar because the belt was not on the left hand blade pulley. Got that corrected and mowed the back yard which is well fertilized by 5 dogs and was very green and growing. The LT cut like a champ. I got this mower kind of late in the season last year after my green one died. I am looking for many peaceful hours on it this year. I think the only place it shows wear is on the cup holder!:)
