LT1045 Hydro

Forgive me if this has been discussed, I searched for this but had no luck.....I know that the hydrostat unit on these machines is considered sealed. However, has anyone come up with a way to change the hydrostat fluid? I figure worst case would be drilling and tapping a couple of holes in the case, but was wondering about the experience of others. Coldstream

I have no experience with the 1000 series tractors, but I would think you should be able to buy a pump, and pump it out the dipstick tube. I've heard good things about the Pela Oil Extractors.

Have your tractor's 13 digit model number and serial number handy.. You'll find them on the underside of your tractor's seat when tilted forward.

That should take you to a page where the various documents for your tractor will be listed. Look for the one titled "service manual" and download it. Within that PDF document you should find several sections dealing with your hydro transmission, including how to drain/refill.

I believe the only way you can drain the fluid is through the vent. Easiest way to do that is remove the tranny from the tractor and turn it upside down. Measure the amount that comes out and replace the same amount with new fluid.

Right on. If it's got the small plastic expansion reservoir, you could do successive suck-outs and refills through there, the most thorough way would be to remove the whole arse end. The worst part is removing the drive belt and hydro linkage (which isn't that bad.)
