LT1042 Clutch wont engage ?

Hi, recently I replaced all my belts, checked all bearings etc. All worked fine until last weekend when my mate used it to mow some heavy grass (about 4 hrs work) he also hit a number of rocks etc. Apparently he used the PTO engage switch quite often (rather than just leaving it engaged) and now when the switch is pulled it attempts to drive the mower deck then drops out. Any ideas ? (I am suspecting a dead clutch but am not sure how to diagnose correctly)

Sounds like the relay for the PTO is bad. Should be next to the fuse. See the black cube in the image below.
